STMicroelectronics provides a recommended PCB layout in the application note AN4571, which includes guidelines for component placement, thermal management, and routing to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI) and ensure reliable operation.
The transformer selection depends on the input voltage, output voltage, and power rating of the converter. STMicroelectronics provides a transformer selection guide in the datasheet, and also recommends using transformers from approved vendors, such as TDK or Würth Elektronik.
The VIPER50ASP can operate in ambient temperatures up to 150°C, but the maximum junction temperature (TJ) should not exceed 175°C. The device's thermal performance can be improved by using a heat sink or a thermal interface material.
To ensure EMC, follow the guidelines in the datasheet and application notes, such as using a shielded transformer, minimizing loop areas, and using EMI filters. Additionally, perform EMC testing and certification according to relevant standards, such as IEC 61000-4-4.
The recommended input capacitor type is an X7R or X5R ceramic capacitor, with a value of 1-10 μF, depending on the input voltage and ripple current requirements. The capacitor should be placed close to the VIPER50ASP and have a low equivalent series resistance (ESR).
