FS8853 300mA Linear Regulator
Current Limit FS8853 low-dropout linear regulator. supplies pre-selected 2.5V, 3.3V output mask option from 1.3V 4.5V with 100mV increment load currents 300mA. illustrated function block diagram, consists 1.25V reference, error amplifier, p-channel pass transistor internal feedback voltage divider. 1.25V bandgap reference connected error amplifier, which compares this reference with feedback voltage amplifies difference. feedback voltage lower than reference voltage, pass-transistor gate pulled lower, which allows more current pass output increases output voltage. feedback voltage high, pass-transistor gate pulled allowing less current pass output. output voltage feedback through internal resistive divider connected OUT. Additional blocks include output current limiter, thermal sensor, shutdown logic. Internal P-channel Pass Transistor FS8853 features P-channel MOSFET pass transistor. Unlike similar designs using pass transistors, P-channel MOSFETs require base drive, which reduces ground current. PNP-based regulators also waste considerable current dropout when pass transistor saturates, high base-drive currents under large loads. FS8853 does suffer from these problems consumes only 65µA (Typ.) ground current under heavy loads well dropout. Output Voltage Selection FS8853 output voltage preset internally trimmed voltage 2.5V, 3.3V mask option from 1.3V 4.5V with 100mV increment. first two-digit part number suffix identifies output voltage (see Ordering Information). example, FS8853-33CL preset 3.3V output voltage. FS8853 also include fold back current limiter. monitors controls pass transistor's gate voltage, estimating output current limiting 0.6A. Thermal Overload Protection Thermal overload protection limits total power dissipation FS8853. When junction temperature exceeds +170, thermal sensor turns pass transistor, allowing cool. thermal sensor turns pass transistor again after junction temperature cools resulting pulsed output during continuous thermal overload conditions. Thermal overload protection designed protect FS8853 event fault conditions. continual operation, absolute maximum junction temperature rating +170 should exceeded. Operating Region Power Dissipation Maximum power dissipation FS8853 depends thermal resistance case circuit board, temperature difference between junction ambient air, rate airflow. power dissipation across devices IOUT (VIN-VOUT). resulting maximum power dissipation
