Photoelectric Sensors Terminology
Diffuse-reflection proximity switch
With this type device, emitter receiver form part same unit. optical beams either parallel slightly converging. presence object optical field causes diffused reflection luminous beam. receiver detects reflection from object itself. reflective properties object important. generally possible reliably detect presence object unless perfectly reflective black. Clear objects with reflective power detected close rated operating distance. Dark objects with reflectivity detected about half normal operating distance.
Polarized retro-reflective photoelectric switch
This variant retroreflective photoswitch. polarizing filter placed emitter's optical path. polarizing filter receiver oriented right angle filter emitter. This results elimination reflections from surfaces other than reflector. light from reflector possesses component that strongly polarized perpendicular direction incident light. becomes only recognizable reflected-light source.
Make-break complementary function:

Photoelectric Sensors Terminology
Programmable Four-wire
power supply wires, NO/NC selection input output. selection wire sets function depending which power supply terminal connected
Three-Wire

Overvoltage protection

Open collector

Electrical protection
