QUAD DARLINGTON POWER DRIVER
Combining logic gates high-current bipolar outputs, UDN2544B quad Darlington power driver provides interface between low-level logic circuitry high-power loads. Each four outputs sink state with peak inrush currents four power outputs each comprised opencollector Darlington driver internal flyback/clamp diode switching inductive loads. They feature minimum breakdown sustaining voltage logic inputs compatible with CMOS logic systems. This device particularly well-suited unipolar stepper motor drive applications. With complementary control inputs activelow ENABLE, UDN2544B makes easy implement full stepping stepper motor with only microcontroller/microprocessor control lines. Other typical applications include relay solenoid driving incandescent lamp driving. UDN2544B supplied 16-pin batwing power DIP. batwing construction provides maximum package power dissipation standard construction. 25°C, with only copper foil ground tabs, package capable safely dissipating

typical application shown driving four-phase unipolar stepper motor. Note that with complimentary control inputs, only logic signals needed drive motor two-phase format. phase drive format illustrated, energizes adjacent phases each detent position (AB, provide improved torque-speed product greater detent torque. Zener diode used increase flyback voltage. increased flyback voltage gives much faster inductive load turn-OFF current decay resulting improved motor performance. maximum Zener voltage, plus load supply voltage, plus flyback diode forward voltage must exceed device's rated sustaining voltage.
OUTPUT VOLTAGE
With external control circuitry, ENABLE input (active low) used chopper (PWM) applications. ENABLE input used, should tied low. inputs will float high open circuited.
