PRISM 3 provides an IEEE 802.11b (Wi-Fi) based wireless LAN platform optimized for consumer applications. The innovative Direct Down Conversion architecture significantly reduces WLAN product cost. Decreasing the WLAN components to a 2-chip design, Intersil enables partners to create products in smaller form factors for existing and emerging markets. OEM developers can target consumer market applications using the embedded PCMCIA, Compact Flash and USB interface. The world-class PRISM 3 front-end ISL3684 chip utilizes Direct Down Conversion technology, eliminating the need for intermediatefrequency mixer(s), amplifier and filter components. The ISL3871 is a highly integrated Baseband / MAC which complements the ISL3684 front end. The result is a significant reduction in component count, enabling new WLAN products for emerging consumer markets. The PRISM 3 development kit will support popular design interfaces including PCMCIA and USB.
