Functional Description
BitBlasterserial download cable (ordering code: PL-BITBLASTER) hardware interface standard RS-232 port (called "COM port" either "ttya port" "ttyb port" UNIX workstations). This cable channels configuration data FLEX 10K, FLEX 8000, FLEX 6000 devices, well programming data 9000 (including 9000A), 7000S, 7000A, 3000A devices. Because design changes downloaded directly device, prototyping easy, multiple design iterations accomplished quick succession. Figure

Data Download Modes
BitBlaster cable provides data download modes:
Passive serial (PS) mode-Used configuring FLEX 10K, FLEX 8000, FLEX 6000 devices JTAG mode-Industry-standard JTAG boundary-scan test (BST) circuitry (compliant with IEEE Std. 1149.1-1990) implemented programming configuring FLEX 10K, 9000, 7000S, 7000A, 3000A devices.
BitBlaster Connections
Data downloaded from computer's RS-232 port through BitBlaster cable circuit board connections described this section. configure/program 3.3-V devices (e.g., FLEX 10KA, FLEX 10KB, FLEX 10KE, 7000A, 3000A devices) using BitBlaster cable, connect cable's 5.0-V power supply device 3.3-V power supply. 3.3-V Altera devices have 5.0-V tolerant inputs, BitBlaster cable's 5.0-V output will harm these 3.0-V devices. pullup resistors should connected 5.0-V power supply.
