Electronic Fibre Optic Connectors
SUMMARY LEMO Series ruggedised connectors being increasingly designed into defence aerospace applications well extending their usage within demanding motorsport markets which they were originally developed. Electronics their enclosures continue shrink dramatically size often external connectors that primary limiting factor further size reductions, particularly with spec connectors that were developed many decades ago. Changes connector style necessary customers wish continue miniaturise their equipment, whilst still seeking reliability performance larger connectors. LEMO Series connectors have been specially developed meet requirements that these market changes have been demanding. LEMO Series offers customers considerable opportunities space weight reduction comparison connectors their derivatives. example, panel mount receptacle model) offers approximately 10mm shorter distance from panel pcb, with corresponding significant savings enclosure volume weight. push-pull system requires significantly less space comparison bayonet screw coupled connectors, both which require finger space turn outer locking devices. contrast push-pull system only needs clasped either side connector, consequently much higher packing density connectors feasible. Again this result reduction either height width enclosures therefore volume weight equipment. FULL SCREENING THROUGH HOUSING GROUNDING NEEDED common practice with connectors have have grounding where concern backshell also required. This problem attended within Series through provision earthing crown arrangement between plug receptacle, which well providing full 360° screening, acts another contact therefore reducing number contacts required. Screening continuity from cable connector achieved metal tie-wrap system clamping screen onto specially designed location around rear connector. QUICK SECURE CONNECTIONS push-pull system quick easy connect disconnect, provides highly secure connection when mated proven thousands applications over many years. Pulling cable will release connector, simple pull latching sleeve withdraws latches releases connectors. latching system suited environments high vibration shock demonstrated these connectors motorsport applications. Additionally latching system contacts highly reliable being designed mating cycles more. Blind mating these connectors assisted provision multiple keying, whilst different options these means that cross-mating avoided critical applications. Colour coding different options provided assist with connector identification. SNATCH RELEASE OPTION AVAILABLE Where required, modified version latching system provides secure system, which released pre-determined pulling force cable. ENVIRONMENTAL SEALING IP67/68 sealing system both connector interface provides protection watertightness IP67 rating when mated. special sealing gland also provided rear connector provide individual wire sealing. Panel receptacles available potted versions provide sealing enclosure IP68 unmated. HIGH VIBRATION SHOCK RESISTANCE LEMO connectors have excellent resistance vibration shock fully floating contact design latching system, well their light weight. applications involving particularly high levels impact, version recommended, meeting requirements 810E gunfire test. MODULAR CONSTRUCTION USING COTS COMPONENTS GIVES WIDE CHOICE. LEMO connectors modular design, with very wide range components available. In-line plugs receptacles, 2-hole flange receptacles panel mounted receptacles various configurations available. Whilst standard range connectors demonstrated this catalogue, easy customise these components other ways provide many other options required. MULTIPOLE, FIBRE OPTIC HYBRID CONTACT CONFIGURATIONS Multipole contact configurations from contacts available, with exceptionally high electrical performance, unique contact design precision manufacture. example 2-way 9.0mm diameter plug rated Amps continuous, with 3-way same plug rated Amps continuous. Fibre optic contacts, suitable both singlmode multimode available. butt ferrule contact utilises industry standard 1.25mm ceramic ferrules fully floating sprung loaded design, which with polish gives excellent insertion loss back-reflection results. benefit modular construction that straightforward create hybrid configurations electrical fibre optic contacts within same connectors. ACCESSORIES TOOLING full range accessories including heatshrink boots, metal tie-wraps, caps coloured washers available, along with tooling such crimp positioners extractor tooling. CABLE ASSEMBLY Where customers seeking so-called one-stop shopping complete cable assemblies, LEMO's skilled technicians build test these your specifications, maintaining same high standard with connectors.

LEMO's Push-Pull Self-Latching Connection System
This self-latching system renowned worldwide easy quick mating unmating features. provides absolute security against vibration, shock pull cable, facilitates operation very limited space.
LEMO self-latching system allows connector mated simply pushing plug axially into socket.
Once firmly latched, connection cannot broken pulling cable other component part other than outer release sleeve.
When required, connector disengaged single axial pull outer release sleeve. This first disengages latches then withdraws plug from socket.

General Characteristics
Selection shell materials
Aluminium alloy aluminium alloy outer shells find numerous applications where light weight predominant factor; such aeronautics space industries, portable mobile equipment. Shells made high mechanical strength alloy (Avional). Connector shells protected conductive anthracite grey coloured nickel finish. standard latch sleeve made special bronze brass, this material offer excellent performances most applications. very demanding vibrating situation recommand special latch sleeve Beryllium copper alloy. These parts have electrolytic nickel plating. standard gaskets made fluororubber FPM/FKM. This material excellent resistance hydrocarbons. Sealing resin epoxy resin used seal both watertight vacuumtight socket coupler models. Brass brass outer shells have chrome nickel-plated surface which ensures very good protection against industrial atmosphere, salt most corrosive agents. case brass shell standard latch sleeves made special bronze brass. Here standard gaskets made silicone rubber MQ/MVQ. This material excellent weather resistance wide temperature range. Other metallic components general, most metallic components manufactured brass. However, bronze beryllium copper used where good elasticity required (for example: earthing crown). Depending application, these parts have electrolytic nickel plating.
Degrees protection code)
60529 outlines international classification system sealing effectiveness enclosures electrical equipment against intrusion into equipment foreign bodies (i.e., tools, dust, fingers) moisture. This classification system utilizes letters (Ingress Protection) followed digits. Degrees protection First digit first digit code indicates degree that persons protected against contact with moving parts degree that equipment protected against solid foreign bodies intruding into enclosure. special protection Protection from large part body such hand from solid objects greater than diameter Protection against objects greater than length diameter Protection from entry tools, wires, etc., with diameter thickness greater than Protection from entry solid objects with diameter thickness greater than Protection from amount dust that would interfere with operation equipment Dust-tight marking marking means that appliance equipment bearing complies with protection requirements several European safety directives. Example: letter code digit digit
Degrees protection Second digit Second digit indicates degree protection equipment inside enclosure against harmful entry various forms moisture (e.g. dripping, spraying, submersion, etc.) special protection Protection from vertically dripping water Protection from dripping water when tilted Protection from sprayed water Protection from splashed water Protection from water projected from nozzle Protection against heavy seas, powerful jets water Protection against temporary immersion Protection against complete continuous submersion water

Electrical contact
Technical description secure reliable electromechanical connection achieved with LEMO female cylindrical contacts mainly important design features: Prod proof entry mating side which ensures perfect concentric mating even with carelessly handled connectors. pressure spring, with good elasticity, maintains constant even force male contact when mated. leading edge pressure spring preserves surface treatment (gold-plated) prevents undue wear. Contact material treatment LEMO female contacts made bronze beryllium (QQC-530) bronze (UNS 54400). These materials chosen because their high modulus elasticity, their excellent electrical conductivity high mechanical strength. LEMO male print contacts made brass (UNS 38500). Male crimp contacts made brass (UNS 34500) annealed brass (UNS 38500) with optimum hardness (HV) crimping onto wire. Bronze brass
