Description
NAME ENABLE FUNCTION Regulator Input. Bypass with (min) low-ESR ceramic capacitor. Active-High Enable Input. Bypass with minimum 4.7FF. low-ESR, ceramic capacitor (X7R, X5R) optimal performance. SETOV input controls output voltage when fixed +3.3V fixed output-voltage mode. ENABLE active-high, logic-level enable input that turns device off. Drive ENABLE high turn device internal 0.65µA pulldown current keeps MAX16910 shutdown mode when driven three-state driver high-impedance mode, open-drain driver. When shutdown, MAX16910 consumes only 1.6µA. ENABLE withstands voltages 45V, allowing driven high-input level voltages connected always-on operation. MAX16910 features thermal protection. When junction temperature exceeds +180°C, internal thermal sensor turns pass transistor, allows device cool. thermal sensor turns pass transistor again after junction temperature cools 25°C. This results cycled output during continuous thermal-overload conditions. Thermal protection protects MAX16910 event fault conditions. continuous operation, exceed absolute maximum junction temperature rating +150°C. MAX16910 features 330mA current limit. output shorted continuously without damage device. During short circuit, power dissipated across pass transistor quickly heat device. When temperature reaches +180°C, MAX16910 turns pass transistor automatically restarts after temperature cooled 25°C. MAX16910 features active-low, open-drain reset output. Once monitored output voltage exceeds reset threshold voltage, RESET remains reset timeout period then goes high. RESET changes from high whenever monitored output voltage drops below reset threshold voltage. RESET also asserts when ENABLE during thermal shutdown. MAX16910 features reset timeout period adjustable input. internal capacitance produces 60µs default delay when TIMEOUT left unconnected. Connect capacitor from TIMEOUT higher timeout period than default. following formula determine reset timeout capacitor: CTIMEOUT TTIMEOUT

Some ceramic dielectrics exhibit large capacitance variations with temperature. improve power-supply rejection transient response, capacitor larger than minimum capacitor between GND. MAX16910 provides 200mA continuous output current. input voltage range extends 30V. Package power dissipation limits amount output current available given input/output voltage ambient temperature. Figure shows maximum allowable power dissipation these devices keep junction temperature below +150°C. Figure assumes that exposed metal MAX16910 soldered 1in2 multilayer copper board. After determining allowable power dissipation, calculate maximum allowable output current, without exceeding +150°C junction temperature, using following formula: reset timeout period adjustable accommodate variety microprocessor applications.
