General Description
MAX9680 high-speed amplifier filter optimized portable video applications. specifically designed compatible with video encoders embedded application processors with 0.4VP-P video output. input common-mode range includes GND, which allows video (digital-to-analog converter) DC-coupled MAX9680. output swings within 20mV with standard back-terminated video load (150I). internal level shift circuit prevents output from saturating with input, thus preventing sync-pulse clipping common video circuits. Therefore, MAX9680 ideally suited DC-coupling video load. MAX9680 been optimized space-sensitive applications integrating internal gain setting resistors 5.2V/V) 2-pole video-DAC reconstruction filter. shutdown mode, quiescent current reduced less than 0.4FA, dramatically reducing power consumption prolonging battery life. MAX9680 available tiny 2.1mm, 6-pin, SC70 package.

Detailed Description
MAX9680 filters amplifies video output applications such mobile phones. MAX9680 consists resistors, input buffer, lowpass filter, output amplifier capable driving standard 150I video load ground. output amplifier provides fixed gain 5.17V/V. video current imposes reference voltage, VREF, across RSET. resulting current (VREF/RSET) reference current video current DAC. video input should directly connected output video current DAC. RIN, equivalent input resistance, 872I ground. output current video flows through create video signal voltage domain. filter bandwidth (-3dB) typically 9MHz, making device suitable standard-definition video signals from sources (e.g., broadcast DVD). Broadcast video signals channel limited: NTSC signals have 4.2MHz bandwidth, signals have 5MHz bandwidth. Video signals from player, however, channel limited; bandwidth video signals approach Nyquist limit 6.75MHz. Recommendation: ITU-R BT.601-5 specifies 13.5MHz sampling rate
standard-definition video. Therefore, maximum bandwidth signal 6.75MHz. ease filtering requirements, most modern video systems oversample times, clocking video current 27MHz. MAX9680 features 5.17V/V gain. Operating from 2.7V 3.6V supply, output amplifier able drive 2.3V signal into 150I video load ground. output typically offset 120mV above ground guarantee linear operation amplifier. MAX9680 output only sources current; loads should connected ground. Short-Circuit Protection MAX9680 Typical Application Circuit includes back-termination resistor that limits short-circuit currents external short applied video output. MAX9680 features internal output short-circuit protection prevent device damage prototyping applications where amplifier output directly shorted. Short-circuit protection activates output short circuited output current exceeds 90mA. During short-circuit protection, output MAX9680 shut 18Fs then turns 0.6Fs. short still present, MAX9680 output shuts again. Extended short circuits result pulsed output. device resumes normal operation after short removed.

Application Information
MAX9680 input DC-coupled. When supply voltage between 2.7V 3.6V, input voltage range extends from ground 0.445V. When supply voltage between 2.8V 3.6V, input voltage range extends from ground 0.464V. typical current-output that operates from single supply usually creates composite video signal with sync very close ground. Hence, output directly connected MAX9680 input. Keep board trace short possible minimize parasitic stray capacitance prevent unintentional high-frequency attenuation.
Input Considerations
MAX9680 output must DC-coupled. AC-coupled capacitors allowed. MAX9680 connects directly video cable through series back-termination resistor. other cable should properly terminated with resistor well. Because this configuration, peak-to-peak amplitude well level signal divided two. MAX9680 output signal level-shifted sync approximately 120mV. MAX9680 operates from single-supply voltage down 2.7V, allowing low-power operation. Bypass with 0.1FF capacitor. Place external components close possible device.
