DriveCable02EVK evaluation designed demonstrating performance DS15BA101 DS15EA101, cable extender chipset. enables evaluation chipset with 100-ohm differential cables such twin-axial cost CAT5e/6/7 twisted pair cables 50-ohm coaxial cables. purpose this document familiarize with DriveCable02EVK, suggest test setup procedures instrumentation, guide through some typical measurements that demonstrate performance chipset typical applications.

Evaluation with 100-ohm Differential Balanced Cables
DriveCable02EVK used evaluate chipset with 100-ohm differential cables (twin-axial twisted pair cables). Examples CAT5e/6/7 cable assemblies such Belden 1500A, Belden 1700A, Siemon CAT7 Tera, Belden 89207 Amphenol SKEWCLEAR series cables. Figure simplified block diagram configuration.

Follow these steps DriveCable02EVK evaluation with 100-ohm differential balanced cables: Configure DriveCable02EVK board: Provide between (VDD) (GND). This powers devices board. DS15BA101 (U1) output voltage amplitude using JP1. Enable DS15EA101 (U2) outputs setting low. This accomplished placing jumper across pins connector JP2. Connect DS15BA101 inputs signal source (e.g. Pattern Generator Serializer output). Note AC-coupling capacitors inputs (SMA1 SMA2) Adjust signal parameters (VOH, VOL, VCM) that they comply with DS15BA101 input requirements. DC-coupled interface desired, 0-ohm SM0402 resistors place There provision optional resistor divider network (R12 R13) DS15BA101 inputs case desires biasing input signal externally (note: there already internal biasing network DS15BA101 inputs). addition, connector provides signal biasing provision voltage source. Attach connector adapters available) DS15BA101 outputs (SMA3 SMA4) DS15EA101 inputs (SMA5 SMA6). Connect 100-ohm cable assembly with corresponding plugs ends. LED1 will illuminate DS15EA101 (U2) detects valid signal. Connect DS15EA101 (U2) outputs directly oscilloscope, error rate tester (BERT) receiver deserializer using good quality coaxial cables. Note that equalizer outputs have internal 50-ohm pull-ups that there on-board AC-coupling capacitors. Observe results oscilloscope BERT receiver.
