Operation Modes, Wake-Up addition normal operation mode, TLE6254-3G offers receive-only mode well power operation modes save power during periods that require communication bus: sleep mode, VBAT stand-by mode (see Table Figure control input pins NSTB operation modes selected microcontroller. power modes neither receiving transmitting messages possible. sleep operation mode lowest power consumption achieved. order minimize overall current consumption (electronic control unit) external voltage regulator supply) deactivated output this mode, when connected. that purpose output switched high impedance. parallel CANL line pulled-up battery supply voltage output pull-up paths input pins disabled from internal supply. enter sleep operation mode transition mode "Go-to-Sleep" selected (Figure minimum time th(min). After minimum hold time th(min) sleep mode actively selected. Otherwise TLE6254-3G will automatically fall sleep mode because powered microcontroller. wake-up request either line activities WAKE input, transceiver automatically VBAT stand-by mode. voltage regulator supply) enabled output. WAKE input reacts both, transition from high voltage level well other round. avoid faulty wake-ups transients lines WAKE input circuitry respectively, certain filter time implemented. soon provided, wake-up request monitored both, NERR outputs, setting them low. Upon this microcontroller activate normal operation mode setting control inputs NSTB high. VBAT stand-by mode corresponds sleep mode, voltage regulator connected output will remain active. Wake-up requests WAKE lines immediately reported microcontroller setting NERR low. power-on condition (VBAT supplied) automatically switches TLE6254-3G VBAT stand-by mode. receive-only mode data CAN-bus transferred output, both output stages, CANH well CANL disabled. This means that data input transmitted bus. This mode useful combination dedicated network-management software that allows separate diagnosis nodes. wake-up request receive-only mode only reported RxD-output. NERR output this mode used indicate battery fail condition. When entering normal mode VBAT-flag reset NERR output becomes high again. This feature useful e.g. when changing therefore presetting routine microcontroller started.

Failure Management TLE6254-3G detects failures described Table automatically switches dedicated CANH CANL single wire mode maintain data transmission necessary. Therefore, device equipped with differential receiver single ended receivers, each line. avoid false triggering external influences single wire modes only activated after certain delay time. soon failure disappears transceiver switches back differential mode after another time delay. failures indicated normal operation mode setting NERR output low. differential receiver threshold typ. -3.1 This ensures correct reception normal operation mode well failure cases with noise margin high possible. these failures, further failure management necessary. Detection failure cases only possible when dominant. Nevertheless, they reported NERR output until transmission next word begins.

current limiting circuit protects transceiver output stages from damage short-circuit positive negative battery voltages. CANH CANL pins protected against electrical transients which occur severe conditions automotive environments. transmitter output stages generate majority power dissipation. Therefore they disabled junction temperature exceeds maximum value. This effectively reduces power dissipation, hence will lead lower chip temperature, while other parts remain operating. temperature shut-down condition TLE6254-3G still able receive CAN-bus messages.
