General Description
TC32M fully-integrated processor supervisor 3-pin package. provides three important functions safeguard processor sanity: precision power on/off RESET control, watchdog timer external RESET override. power-up, TC32M holds processor reset state minimum 500msec after within tolerance ensure stable system start-up. Microprocessor sanity monitored on-board watchdog circuit. microprocessor must provide high-to-low level shift (through external resistor divider) TC32M. Should processor fail supply this signal within specified timeout period (typically 700msec), out-of-control processor indicated TC32M issues processor reset result. output TC32M wire-ORed with push-button switch electronic signal) override TC32M unconditionally reset processor. When connected push-button switch, TC32M provides contact debounce. TC32M packaged space-saving TO-92 SOT-223 package. provides functionality industry standard TC1232 smaller, lower cost configuration.

WATCHDOG STROBE
TC32M provides three important functions safeguard stable processor operation: precision processor monitor, watchdog sanity timer external override reset control.
Processor Monitor
immediately driven time below nominal threshold voltage. result, this when power initially applied, holding processor reset state. remains minimum 500msec after within tolerance allow power supply processor stabilize.
Watchdog Timer
processor drives with input/output (I/O) line series with resistor voltage divider VDD. Pulling bottom resistor this divider results internal voltage change (strobe) sufficient reset watchdog timer, above input threshold processor RESET pin. processor must continuously apply strobes this manner within period verify proper software execution. momentary reset (500msec minimum) generated TC32M hardware software failure keeps from being strobed within watchdog timeout period. This action typically initiates processor's power-up routine. interruption persists, reset pulses generated each timeout period until strobed. This timeout period typically 700msec.
software routine that drives strobe must section program that executes frequently enough time between toggles less than watchdog timeout period. strobe signal derived from microprocessor address, data and/or control signals. Typical circuit examples shown Figure 3-4.
Resistor Value Selection
values must chosen ensure valid strobe level (VSTL) when processor line low. 10k, tolerance resistors recommended. These values result nominal strobe level (min/max 2.13V/ 3.08V, assuming 5.0V ±10%). Other resistor values used, long additive tolerances power supply resistor values result strobe that falls within VSTH VSTL under additive tolerance conditions.

TC32M optimized fast response negativegoing changes VDD. Systems with inordinate amount electrical noise (such systems using relays), require 0.01µF bypass capacitor reduce detection sensitivity. This capacitor should installed close TC32M possible keep capacitor lead length short.
