FS8856 low-dropout linear regulator that operations input voltage range from +2.5V +6.5V delivers 550mA output current. high-accuracy output voltage preset internally trimmed voltage 2.5V 3.3V. Detail Description
FS8856 low-dropout linear regulator. device provides preset 2.5V 3.3V output voltages output current 550mA. Other mask options special output voltages from 1.3V 5.0V with 100mV increment also available. illustrated function block diagram, consists 1.25V reference, error amplifier, P-channel pass transistor internal feedback voltage divider. 1.25V bandgap reference connected error amplifier, which compares this reference with feedback voltage amplifies voltage difference. feedback voltage lower than reference voltage, pass-transistor gate pulled lower, which allows more current pass output increases output voltage. feedback voltage high, pass-transistor gate pulled decrease output voltage. output voltage feedback through internal resistive divider connected pin. Additional blocks include output current limiter, thermal sensor, shutdown logic. Internal P-channel Pass Transistor FS8856 features P-channel MOSFET pass transistor. Unlike similar designs using pass transistors, P-channel MOSFETs require base drive, which reduces ground current. PNP-based regulators also waste considerable current dropout when pass transistor saturates, high base-drive currents under large loads. FS8856 does suffer from these problems consumes only 65µA (Typ.) ground current under heavy loads well dropout conditions. Output Voltage Selection FS8856 output voltage preset internally trimmed voltage 2.5V, 3.3V mask-optioned from 1.3V 5.0V with 100mV increment. first digits part number suffix identify output voltage (see Ordering Information). example, FS8856-33CL preset 3.3V output voltage.
Current Limit FS8856 also includes fold back current limiter. monitors controls pass transistor's gate voltage, estimates output current, limits output current within 0.8A. Thermal Overload Protection Thermal overload protection limits total power dissipation FS8856. When junction temperature exceeds +155°C, thermal sensor turns pass transistor, allowing cool down. thermal sensor turns pass transistor again after junction temperature cools down 20°C, resulting pulsed output during continuous thermal overload conditions. Thermal overload protection designed protect FS8856 event fault conditions. continuous operation, maximum operating junction temperature rating +125°C should exceeded.
