LM2639 5-Bit Programmable, High Frequency Multi-phase Controller
LM2639 provides attractive solution power supplies high power microprocessors (such Pentium IITM, IITM, K6TM-2, K6TM-3, etc.) exhibiting ultra fast load transients. Compared conventional single-phase supply, LM2639 based multi-phase supply distributes thermal electrical loading among components multiple phases greatly reduces corresponding stress each component. LM2639 programmed control either 3-phase converter 4-phase converter. Phase shift among phases 120° case three phase with four-phase. Because power channels phase, there significant ripple cancellation both input output current, resulting reduced input output capacitor size. nominal operating frequency phase, size output inductors greatly reduced which results much faster load transient response dramatically shrunk output capacitor bank. Microprocessor power supplies with surface mount components easily built. internal high speed transconductance amplifier guarantees good dynamic performance. output drive voltages adjusted through resistor divider control switching loss external FETs. internal master clock frequency external reference resistor. external clock also used drive chip achieve frequency control multi-chip operation. LM2639 also provides input under-voltage lock-out with hysteresis input over-current protection.
