Notes RSENSE value should selected guarantee that programmed over current will cause voltage drop across RSENSE approx. 135mV. higher value RSENSE selected then R1/R3 resistor divider should used scale voltage drop down. Internal external circuits associated with Direction Sense Backfeed pins allow emulate Schottky diode functionality with much lower forward voltage drop and, therefore, with much lower power dissipation. R2/R4 resistor divider programs backfeed current protection threshold. backfeed turns when backfeed current pulse level causes more than (typical value) voltage drop between Vadapter Direction Sense pin. Voltage difference (VDIRECTION SENSE VADAPTER) must higher than 20mV reliably isolate adapter case leakage. prevent FETs from turning unless driven LM2601.
CDELAY value calculated from following formula: CDELAY(nF) TDELAY(µs)/90 25°C TDELAY temperature coefficient equals 4000ppm/°C. also Typical Delay Time Temperature graph. Application Information
adapter interface circuit (AIC) provides control functions necessary mating constant voltage output AC-DC adapter airline adapter notebook computer system portable device. allows optimal battery charging during computer operation, allows battery discharge battery gauge calibration. receives control signals from notebook computer, monitors input current from adapter, provides adapter voltage status notebook system management microcontroller embedded controller), appropriately drives MOSFET switches electrically connect adapter computer. will allow system designer solve various power management tasks typical adapter powered systems containing rechargeable battery. When notebook computer being powered from battery adapter plugged computer should start drawing power from adapter, from battery. most time efficient charging scenario when computer draws full rated current from constant voltage adapter. computer uses what needs run, passes remaining power battery charging. computer should able automatically refuse charge battery when powered from airplane power line.
necessary sometimes have computer fully discharging battery then fully recharging (for battery gauge calibration purposes) while being powered adapter. will also allow computer prevent backfeeding current into adapter adapter powered while being plugged into computer (some existing adapters draw current from computer under this conditions charging adapter output bulk capacitance from computer battery). While lowest usable adapter voltage about 9.5V, that VADAPTER 11.7V minus 2.2V hysteresis, operational down VADAPTER This means that will generate false readings down VADAPTER Such false readings would HIGH, ADAPTER PRESENT HIGH, CHARGER PRESENT HIGH. determines usable voltage ranges comparing VADAPTER with internal 2.5V voltage reference (see also Electrical Characteristics). detects operating current limit leakage current limit into adapter jack differential sensing across current sense resistor RSENSE either directly scaled down resistor dividers R1/R3 R2/R4. When designing LM2601 into system necessary consider protection requirements adapter jack according your system design spec.
