Likewise, relays switch currents range nanoamps hundreds milliamps. MOSFET switches ideal small signal switching primarily suited audio frequency applications. Siemens offers integrated current limiting many relays. load current through relay exceeds rated value, relay clamps current predefined value. excessive load current persists, limiting circuit foldback feature minimize relay power dissipation. current-limit circuit multitude uses. used telephony clamp excessive currents emanating from lightning strikes and/ power-main crosses instrumentation industrial application squelch transients from reactive loads. current-limit circuit also provides short-circuit protection power-feed applications. SSRs feature monolithic output that minimizes wire bonds permits easy integration high-performance circuits such current limiting normally-open switches. output contains necessary circuitry perform relay function, including photodiode receptor array, turn-on turn-off control circuitry, MOSFET switches. optically-coupled input controlled highly efficient GaAlAs infrared LED. Siemens SSRs available 8-pin through-hole gullwing surface-mount packages. Some parts also offered 18-pin small-outline packages (SOPs). SOPs size height compatible with PCMCIA Type cards. distance through insulation spacing also available suffix coded parts. Refer Parts Coding section more in-depth description these parts.
