XR16L2750 operate from 2.25 maximum data rate ST16C2550 Mbps using external clock 1.875 Mbps 3.3V using 30MHz external clock. REPLACING ST16C2550 WITH XR16L2750 directly replace ST16C2550 with XR16L2750 44-pin PLCC 48-pin TQFP packages. those packages, they pin-to-pin compatible. using ST16C2550 40-pin PDIP package, then hardware changes will required since XR16L2750 available that package. Since internal registers XR16L2750 same ST16C2550, XR16L2750 will work with same driver that used with ST16C2550 without changes. However, take advantage enhanced features XR16L2750 such larger FIFO, Programmable Trigger Levels, FIFO Level Counters, Auto Hardware Flow Control, Auto Software Flow Control RS-485 Half-Duplex Control, existing software needs modified. nutshell, ST16C2550 XR16L2750 very similar devices with different FIFO sizes XR16L2750 some addtional features found ST16C2550.
