SSL1623PH Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) controller that operates directly from rectified universal mains. implemented high voltage EZ-HV (Easy High Voltage Silicon-On-Insulator) process, combined with voltage BiCMOS (Bipolar Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) process. device includes high voltage power switch circuit start-up directly from rectified mains voltage. dedicated circuit valley switching built which makes very efficient slim-line electronic driver concept possible. SSL1623PH operate applications with power range SSL152x family would better choice power below required. most basic version application SSL1623PH acts voltage source. Here additional secondary electronics required. combined voltage current source realized with minimum costs external components. Implementation SSL1623PH renders efficient cost power supply system.

Functional description
SSL1623PH heart compact flyback converter, with placed primary side. auxiliary winding transformer used indirect feedback control isolated output. This additional winding also powers more accurate control output voltage and/or current implemented with additional secondary sensing circuit opto coupler feedback. SSL1623PH used constant power mode constant current mode drive LEDs. SSL1623PH uses voltage mode control. frequency determined maximum transformer demagnetizing time time oscillator. first case, converter operates Self Oscillating Power Supply (SOPS) mode. latter

Start-up undervoltage lockout
Initially, self-supplying from rectified mains voltage. starts switching soon voltage passes VCC(startup) level. supply taken over auxiliary winding transformer soon high enough supply from line stopped high efficiency operation. soon voltage drops below VCC(stop) level, stops switching restarts from rectified mains voltage.
Oscillator
frequency oscillator external resistor capacitor external capacitor charged rapidly VRC(max) level and, starting from primary stroke, discharges VRC(min) level. Because discharge exponential, relative sensitivity duty factor regulation voltage duty factor almost equal sensitivity high duty factors. This results more constant gain over duty factor range compared systems with linear sawtooth oscillator. Stable operation duty factors easily realized. high efficiency, frequency reduced soon duty factor drops below certain value. This accomplished increasing oscillator charge time. ensure that capacitor charged within charge time, value oscillator capacitor should limited approximately

Demagnetization
system operates discontinuous conduction mode time. long secondary stroke ended, oscillator will start primary stroke. During suppression time tsup(xfmr_ring), demagnetization recognition suppressed. This suppression necessary applications where transformer large leakage inductance output voltages.
Protections
8.6.1 Overcurrent protection
cycle-by-cycle peak drain current limit circuit uses external source resistor (see Figure measure current. circuit activated after leading edge blanking time tleb. protection circuit limits source voltage VSOURCE(max) thus limits primary peak current.
8.6.2 Short winding protection
short winding protection circuit also activated after leading edge blanking time. source voltage exceeds short winding protection voltage Vswp, SSL1623PH stops switching. Only power-on reset will restart normal operation. short winding protection also protects case secondary diode short circuit.
8.6.3 Overtemperature protection
accurate temperature protection provided SSL1623PH. When junction temperature exceeds thermal shutdown temperature, stops switching. During thermal protection current lowered start-up current. continues normal operation soon overtemperature situation disappeared.
