LT®3003 drives three separate strings LEDs 350mA/channel with accurate current matching, resulting uniform brightness intensity. This approach superior conventional methods running three separate channels with external ballast resistors requiring expensive factory calibration. LT3003 operates boost, buck buck-boost mode. LT3003 OPERATION
LT3003 easy-to-use 3-channel ballaster. allows three strings LEDs driven parallel with accurate current matching. also provided allowing currents turned very duty cycles very wide dimming ranges. reliable system thermal management, output flags, OT2, provided indicate when junction temperature exceeds 125°C. Input Capacitor Selection LT3003 typically driven from same input voltage used partner driver driver inductor govern requirements input capacitor application. ceramic input capacitor range 10µF works most applications. cases where LT3003 input voltage derived separately from driver, input capacitor works well. (VIN VEE) also minimizes LT3003 internal power dissipation (see Thermal Calculation section more information).

LEDs operate either programmed zero current their brightness changes with signal duty cycle. When low, strings completely disconnected. addition, LT3003 switches power standby mode ~10µs after edge, resulting higher system power efficiency. widest dimming range, signal should 100Hz. human typically sensitive flickering below ~80Hz. Operating higher than 100Hz results reduced dimming ratio. Achieving high dimming ratios require attention circuit leakages, such reverse bias leakage currents through external Schottky.
