BASIC CONSTRUCTION
Wirewound resistors usually consist substrate high grade special ceramic material high mechanical stability onto which wound, constant pitch, single layer wire ribbon resistance element. less demanding applications glass fibre cord used substrate instead ceramic material (Types KKA). ends winding attached external terminations caps lugs welding hard soldering, thus providing reliable electrical mechanical internal connections. resistance elements protected coating cement glaze against adverse mechanical environmental conditions.
GLAZING
types ranges GWS, GWK, only high quality special glazes used. temperature changes occurring frequently during operation should cause cracks glaze resistance element must remain encapsulated. Moreover high temperatures d.c. current load electrolytic effects should occur. glaze provides high dielectric strength high insulation resistance also resistant usual washing cleaning chemicals.
CEMENT
principal material phosphate cement which resistant mold termites been well proved over many years. Owing fine grain structure cement, cemented wirewound resistors generally cannot designated absolutely suited tropical i.e. high humidity environments.
RESISTOR MATERIALS
Special alloys with different specific resistance used wire material resistance elements. Most commonly used are: (Class Copper nickel alloy with small additions manganese (without iron zinc) preferred cemented types. medium temperature coefficient 10-6/K between designation CUNi (Class Nickel chromium alloy with additions iron preferred vitreous types, oxidation proof antimagnetic. medium temperature coefficient 10-6/K between designation NiCr 6015. special characteristics requested, also other resistance wires upon request. addition round wires, elements based upon ribbon shaped materials available. these ribbon corrugated wound edgewise onto substrate maximise amount material that applied single winding (Types resistance values alloy (copper nickel) with temperature coefficient 10-6/K, designation CUNi offered.
RESISTANCE VALUE
Rated Resistance Rated resistance value marked components. Critical Resistance Value Critical resistance that resistance value which rated voltage same value maximum permissible continuous voltage. Tolerance Tolerance permissible deviation from rated value. This curve shows maximum permissible loss function ambient temperature.
LIMITING VOLTAGE CONTINUOUS OPERATION
This voltage maximum permissible operating voltage which applied continuously resistor without exceeding maximum temperature middle resistor. This means that starting "critical" resistance value load decreases with increasing resistance values.

D.C. STABILITY
Resistors type ranges GWS, were formerly produced a.c. d.c. versions. With a.c. resistors d.c. operation caused electrolytic reaction, consequence which could breakdown winding. avoid this effect only produce resistors suited both a.c. d.c. operation. therefore longer necessary specify a.c. d.c. operation when ordering.
