±15kV ESD-Protected, Single/Dual/Octal, CMOS Switch Debouncers
MAX6816/MAX6817/MAX6818 single, dual, octal switch debouncers that provide clean interfacing mechanical switches digital systems. They accept more bouncing inputs from mechanical switch produce clean digital output after short, preset qualification delay. Both switch opening bounce switch closing bounce removed. Robust switch inputs handle ±25V levels ±15kV ESDprotected harsh industrial environments. They feature single-supply operation from +2.7V +5.5V. Undervoltage lockout circuitry ensures output correct state upon power-up. single MAX6816 dual MAX6817 offered packages require external components. Their supply current makes them ideal portable equipment. MAX6818 octal switch debouncer designed data-bus interfacing. MAX6818 monitors switches provides switch change-of-state output (CH), simplifying microprocessor (µP) polling interrupts. Additionally, MAX6818 three-state outputs controlled enable (EN) pin, pin-compatible with LS573 octal latch (except pin), allowing easy interfacing digital data bus.

_Detailed Description
Theory Operation
MAX6816/MAX6817/MAX6818 designed eliminate extraneous level changes that result from interfacing with mechanical switches (switch bounce). Virtually mechanical switches bounce upon opening closing. These switch debouncers remove bounce when switch opens closes requiring that sequentially clocked inputs remain same state number sampling periods. output does change until input stable duration 40ms. circuit block diagram (Figure shows functional blocks consisting on-chip oscillator, counter, exclusive-NOR gate, flip-flop. When
input does equal output, XNOR gate issues counter reset. When switch input state stable full qualification period, counter clocks flip-flop, updating output. Figure shows typical opening closing switch debounce operation. MAX6818, change output (CH) updated simultaneously with switch outputs.
Undervoltage Lockout
undervoltage lockout circuitry ensures that outputs correct state power-up. While supply voltage below undervoltage threshold (typically 1.9V), debounce circuitry remains transparent. Switch states present logic outputs without delay.

Robust Switch Inputs
switch inputs MAX6816/MAX6817/MAX6818 have overvoltage clamping diodes protect against damaging fault conditions. Switch input voltages safely swing ±25V ground (Figure Proprietary ESD-protection structures protect against high encountered harsh industrial environments, membrane keypads, portable applications. They designed withstand ±15kV IEC1000-4-2 Discharge Test ±8kV IEC1000-4-2 Contact Discharge Test. Since there (typical) pull-up resistors connected each input, driving input -25V will draw
