Circuit Description
Intermittent operation
intermittent operation MB15C02 refers process activating deactivating internal circuit thus saving power dissipation otherwise consumed circuit. circuit simply restarted from power saving state, however, phase relation between reference frequency (fr) programmable frequency (fp), which input phase comparator, stable even when they same value. This cause phase comparator generate excessively large error signal, resulting out-of-synth lock frequency preclude occurrence this problem, MB15C02 intermittent mode control circuit which forces frequencies into phase with each other when reactivated, thus minimizing error signal resultant lock frequency fluctuations. intermittent mode control circuit controlled pin. Setting high provides normal operation mode setting provides power saving mode. MB15C02 behavior active power saving modes summarized below. Active mode "H") MB15C02 circuits active provide normal operation. Power saving mode "L") MB15C02 stops circuits that consume power heavily well cause little inconvenience when deactivated enters low-power dissipation state. pins take same state when locked. becomes high-impedance state input voltage voltage control oscillator (VCO) maintained same level active mode(that locked state) according time constant pass filter (LPF). Consequently output frequency from (fvco) maintained approximately lock frequency. Applying intermittent operation alternating active power saving modes, also forcing phases synchronize when switches from stand active modes, MB15C02 keep power dissipation entire circuitry minimum.
Programmable divider
fvco input through divided programmable divider then output phase comparator consists dual modulus prescaler, 6-bit binary swallow counter, 12-bit binary programmable counter, controller which controls divide ratio prescaler
MB15C02
Divide ratio range: Prescaler M+1=65 Swallow counter Programmable counter 4095 MB15C02 uses pulse swallow method; consequently, divide rations swallow programmable counters must satisfy relationship N>A. total divide ratio programmable divider calculated follows: Total divide ratio When within 5<N<63, possible divide ratio swallow counter take values 0<A<N-1 because must greater than example, 0<A<19 allowed when N=20 20<A<63 allowed that case. Consequently, N>64 must satisfied total divider within 0<A<63. have following relation:
Programmable reference divider
programmable reference divider divides reference oscillation frequency(fosc) from crystal oscillator connected between OSCin OSCout pins from external oscillator input taken directly through OSCin, then, sends resultant phase comparator. consists 14-bit binary programmable reference counter. When output from external oscillator input directly OSCin, connection must coupled OSCout left open. Also, prevent OSCout from malfunctioning, traces printed circuit board must kept minimal eliminated entirely; whenever possible, must free form load. following divider used: Programmable reference counter 16383 fosc have following relation: fosc
Phase comparator
phase comparator detects phase difference between outputs from dividers generates error signal that proportional phase difference. outputs from phase comparator include which takes three states, namely, (low), (high), (high impedance), sent LPF, 2)R, 3)P, 4)LD which indicates lock unlock states. Phase comparator phase comparator detects phase error between then generates error signal that proportional phase error. roles supplied phase comparator reversed switching logical input level This inverts logical level output. logical level output selected according characteristics external VCO.
