Description
Lucent Technologies Microelectronics Group's SLIM-PAC Electro-Optic Modulator designed long-wavelength, single-mode external amplitude modulation applications. employs integrated Mach-Zehnder configuration convert single polarization light from semiconductor (DFB) solid-state (frequency-optimized Nd:YAG) laser into time-varying optical output signal. Using source mode eliminates need demanding, high-speed performance from laser reduces cost. Ti-diffusion process standard feature modulator devices, available with either single-drive with Microelectronics Group's patented dual-drive configuration. Modules incorporating dual-drive design advantage exhibit balanced drive voltage, which produces zero-chirp modulation operation. addition, redesigned package hermetic protect LiNbO3 from environment. Novel processing techniques make possible achieve 20-year operation with little drift dc-bias point. SLIM-PAC modulator tested meets intent TR-NWT-00468. Other standard features include Panda-type polarization-maintaining fiber (PMF) optical input fiber single-mode fiber output fiber. required customer, polarizers added. Modulators available with either rotary mechanical splice FC-type connectors that keyed axis polarization.
