Description
Thin module connects station equipment Thin (Cheapernet) COAX cable. on-board 83C92C CMOS COAX transceiver provides drive current wave shaping transmit signals. supplies receive signal equalization, collision detection squelch. Transmit Data Input. balanced line receiver input module from transmit packets. Heartbeat Enable. This input enables Collision (also called Heartbeat) Test when connected ground, disables test when connected VEE. Ground. System Ground referenced VCC. Network Signal Receiver. Connects network COAX center conductor, receives packet data detects collision voltage level. Network Signal Transmitter. Connects network COAX center conductor through internal 1N916 diode, transmits signals from network. Collision Detect Sense. Connects directly network shield, references collision detection voltage level.

Description Module Functions
module five main functions, shown block diagram. These Transmitter; Collision Detector; Jabber Timer; Receiver; DC/DC Converter. on-board SEEQ 83C92C provides functions except DC/DC conversion signal isolation. Transmitter Transmitter takes differential output signals from MCC, outputs these signals correct levels network. transmit signal sent module balanced differential pair (TX±). squelch circuit prevents Transmitter Output from responding noise pair. This test disabled operation with repeaters connecting Jabber Timer Jabber Timer monitors operation Transmitter, using Oscillator time base. Transmitter operates continuously more than typically Milliseconds, Jabber Timer disables Transmitter enables Collision Detector outputs. Transmitter automatically re-enabled after station been silent milliseconds. Receiver Receiver detects signal COAX center conductor that triggers squelch circuits, sends signal through differential line driver MCC. Receiver provides amplification equalization; squelch circuit prevents noise from activating Receiver circuits. Figure receive signal goes through buffer with high input impedance capacitance reduce loading reflections network COAX. equalizer passes high frequencies attenuates frequency signals from network, flattening network pass band. signal output through differential line driver presenting balanced signal station. line driver nanosecond rise fall times. 4-pole Bessel low-pass filter provides average level from received signal. sends this level Collision Comparator Squelch circuits. squelch circuit activates Receive Line Driver only when detects true signal. This prevents noise triggering receiver. When packet detected, level from Low-pass Filter becomes more negative than squelch threshold, Receiver turns squelch circuit timing detects high level signals more than nanoseconds, turns Receiver off. within microsecond (typical) low_pass filter level becomes more positive than squelch threshold, then receiver stays off.
