5V/3V Card Power Switch General Description
AAT4651 SmartSwitch single channel card (PCMCIA) power switch. used select between different voltage inputs, each between 2.7V 5.5V. internal switch powers circuitry from whichever input voltage higher. device's output, VCC, slew rate controlled current limited, compliance with card specifications. current limit response time short circuit typically 1µs. internal P-channel MOSFET switches configured break before make; that both switches cannot closed same time. Controlled 2-bit parallel interface, three states VCC5, VCC3, ground. When ground state, pulled ground resistor. open drain FAULT output asserted during over-current conditions. During power-up slewing, FAULT also signals that tolerance. internal over-temperature sensor forces high impedance state when over-temperature condition exists. Quiescent current typically 15µA, long less than approximately 500mA. Above this load current, quiescent current increases 200µA. AAT4651 available Pb-free, 8-pin TSSOP package specified over -40°C +85°C temperature range.

Functional Description
AAT4651 single channel power switch that used application where dual power supply multiplexing required. Typical applications this include card applications requiring power supply, applications where power switched, example, between operation 3.3V standby mode. AAT4651 operates with input voltages ranging from 2.7V 5.5V combination automatically powers internal circuitry from whichever input voltage higher. identical RDS(ON) P-channel MOSFETs serve power multiplexing circuit with common drain output independent sources VCC3 VCC5 inputs. 2-bit parallel interface determines state multiplexer: VCC3, VCC5, with resistive pull down ground. When state either inputs, multiplexing circuit will slowly slew
output voltage level which protects upstream power supply from sudden load transients. When resistive pull down chosen VCC, output quickly discharged resistive pull down. AAT4651 always serves electronic fuse limiting load current exceeds current limit threshold. During powerup into short, current will gradually increase until current limit reached. During sudden short circuit output, current limit will respond isolate protect upstream power supply from load short circuit. most applications, because response time fast, short circuit will affect upstream supply, system functionality will affected. case over-current condition, open drain FAULT flag output will signal event. FAULT output also active during output voltage slew, becomes inactive once output within regulation.

Input Capacitor

Switching Voltage
AAT4651 meets card standards switching output providing ground path well "off" state. card protocol determining voltage operations first power peripheral with poll 3.3V operation.
