SPACE MICRO TECHNOLOGY Building modern, high-speed satellite computer future challenging three interrelated factors: power, throughput space environment induced radiation effects central microprocessor (CPU). Radiation hardened microprocessors have been able achieve solid radiation performance (>100 krad, single event latchup single event upset better than upset 1,000 days/device), only achieve MIPS throughput performance watts. Recent characterizations advanced commercial foundries show that total dose (TID) single event latchup (SEL) tolerance commercial processes have favorable performance trends, making single event upset (SEU) primary problem preventing design power, high speed radiation hardened computer system. studies discussed here show novel technique mitigating advanced class microprocessors, using Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) microprocessor architecture. mitigation technique, termed Time-Triple Modular Redundancy (TTMRTM), introduced along with software simulation mitigation capability. system performance degradation resulting from using TTMR analyzed. Performance TTMR microprocessor internal buses introduced future research.
