Richard Georgi MB90670/675 currently most successful 16-bit microcontroller series from Fujitsu. some designs from customers found some reset layout, which might cause problems under certain circumstances. This article will focus this feature, which related with external interface reset logic. This feature occur with 16-bit Microcontroller designs, that using external interface.
past microcontroller applications most cases used internal only. Now, with code sizes getting bigger time, external interface used very often designs. manual will find some information about specification `Ready' `Reset' signal. does fully understand meaning this information, into problems very fast.
Handling Reset Ready
manual will find pins, called other HST. From these pins, commonly hardware designer will choose RST-pin connect external reset circuitry. However, manual read, that RST-signal will only reset microcontroller after currently executed instruction finished. other hand `Ready'-signal will hold currently executed instruction until external device ready. `Ready'-signal will drawn state `not ready' external device, this causes state, were instruction hangs applied reset detected controller. Therefore, reset sequence might start. This problem overcome very easily. manual read functionality HST-pin. This hardware standby bring microcontroller into stop mode, from which, after releasing, power-on reset will initiated. This does depend state `Ready'-signal. Therefore, only connect your reset circuitry HST-pin will have problem. (You simply connect RST-pin Vcc). Note, that `Ready'-signal, also RST-pin connect your external reset-circuitry. However, still recommend HST-pin. This possibility, that crashed program might Ready-Enable-bit accident. (Watchdog will reset system, even `Ready'!)
Conclusion
When using external interface 16-bit microcontroller, recommend connect Hardware Standby-pin (HST) with your reset circuitry. this case, connected Vcc). This will ensure that microcontroller reset your external reset circuitry, even when external device does provide proper ready signal your software crashes.
