Siemens Semiconductors announced C163-16F 16-bit microcontroller with 128Kbyte on-chip Flash memory. first C166 Family microcontroller using Siemens'5 volt embedded Flash memory technology. 32bit wide access internal Flash memory results 50-70 percent performance increase, well board space reduction compared external memory. high integration, performance, reprogrammability, C163-16F ideal choice data processing communications applications such hard disk drives, scanners, modems, networking equipment telecommunications.
C163-16F features 128K Bytes Flash program memory, organized sectors Bytes each which separately in-system reprogrammable 1000 times. There need external programming voltage programming control helping simplify board layout. complete programming algorithm automatically controlled embedded Flash module, with fast write operation supported Byte page write buffer.
C163 microcontroller with Flash memory will used wherever highest real-time control system performance required. advantage system designer ability make run-time changes either system parameters behavior, while manufacturer will able easily make end-of-line production in-the-field changes, saving them both time money. Currently, C163-16F embedded Flash microcontroller produced using 0.65 technology. Siemens will follow common semiconductor shrink path smaller structure sizes, first followed aggressive 0.25 where dedicated development efforts have been started.
