Product Errata
This section documents AthlonProcessor Model product errata. errata divided into categories assist referencing particular errata. unique tracking number each erratum been assigned within this document user convenience tracking errata within specific revision levels. Table cross-references revisions processor each erratum. indicates that erratum applies stepping. absence indicates that erratum does apply stepping. Shading within table indicates addition modification from previous release this document. Note: There missing errata numbers. Errata that have been resolved from early revisions processor have been deleted, errata that have been reconsidered have been deleted renumbered.

Unit Control Register 408h Returns Incorrect Information
Products Affected. Normal Specified Operation. System reads 408h, Unit Control Register MC2_CTL, should return correct information-the lower bits zeros upper bits EDX. Non-conformance. read Machine Check Architecture (MCA) Unit Control 408h (MC2_CTL) returns incorrect information EDX. returns information stored upper bits Status 409h (MC2_STATUS) instead. Potential Effect System. system reads this control register, upper bits, which reported EDX, contain unexpected data. Suggested Workaround. This register only implemented 32-bit register. Ignore upper bits which reported EDX. Resolution Status. planned.

Resistance Value Pins
Products Affected. Normal Specified Operation. pins specified such that Athlon system output drivers autocompensate whatever resistance value applied between VSS. Non-conformance. Athlon system driver impedance approximately ohms higher than applied resistor value. Potential Effect System. Athlon system signal quality signals driven northbridge adversely affected. Suggested Workaround. motherboards should have ZN/ZP resistors approximately ohms less than characteristic board impedance. Resolution Status. Fixed revision Note: When future revisions processor used with motherboards implementing workaround, expected output impedance driver will continue yield good signal quality. (For example, with motherboard setting ohms part that drives with 60-ohm driver works properly. revised part with true 40-ohm driver also works properly.)

Overshoot Wake-Up from Disconnect Causes Auto-Compensation Circuit Fail
Products Affected. Normal Specified Operation. Athlon Processor Model should return normal operating frequency when reconnecting system after disconnect where reduced lower operating frequency. Non-conformance. Athlon Processor Model exceed normal operating frequency when reconnecting system after disconnect, causing failure maintain sufficient system drive strength levels driver compensation circuit. compensation circuit attempts correct drive strength, there sufficient time perform this function, system cannot operate properly. Potential Effect System. system hangs. Suggested Workaround. event avoided through BIOS manipulation reconnect timing using CLK_CTRL MSR. (See document number 24478, "AMD Athlonand DuronProcessor CLK_CTRL Settings" exact values.) time overshoot greatly shortened reduce very small time period that does enable failure, time between rampup reconnect system increased such that failure compensation circuit enough time recover before reconnecting bus. Resolution Status. Fixed future revisions.
