MK1714-01 cost, high performance clock synthesizer with selectable multipliers percentages spread spectrum designed generate high frequency clocks with EMI. Using analog/digital Phase Locked Loop (PLL) techniques, device accepts inexpensive, fundamental mode, parallel resonant crystal clock input produce spread dithered output. External Components
MK1714-01 requires minimum number external components proper operation. 0.01µF decoupling capacitor should mounted component side board close possible. vias should used between decoupling capacitor pin. trace should kept short possible, should trace ground via. Distance ferrite bead bulk decoupling from device less critical. external crystal should mounted just next device with short traces. traces should routed next each other with minimum spaces, instead they should separated away from other traces. minimize series termination resistor, needed, should placed close clock output. optimum layout with components same side board, minimizing vias through other signal layers (the ferrite bead bulk decoupling capacitor mounted back). Other signal traces should routed away from MK1714-01. This includes signal traces just underneath device, layers adjacent ground plane layer used device.
Decoupling Capacitor
decoupling capacitor 0.01µF must connected between GND, close these pins possible. optimum device performance, decoupling capacitor should mounted component side PCB. Avoid vias decoupling circuit.
Series Termination Resistor

Crystal Tuning Load Capacitors
Crystal Load Capacitors

Powerup Considerations
insure proper operation spread spectrum generation circuit, some precautions must taken implementation MK1714-01. input signal should applied until stable (within final value). This requirement easily operating MK1714-01 source from same power supply. This requirement applicable crystal used. should enabled (taken high) until after power supplies input clock stable. This requirement direct control system logic; example, "power good" signal.
