CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
MC3363 complete narrowband receiver from amplifier audio preamp output. voltage dual conversion design yields power drain, excellent sensitivity good image rejection narrowband voice data link applications. typical application, input signal amplified transistor then first mixer amplifies signal converts input 10.7 MHz. This signal filtered externally into second mixer, which further amplifies signal converts signal. After external bandpass filtering, into limiting amplifier detection circuitry. audio recovered using conventional quadrature detector. Twice-IF filtering provided internally. input signal level monitored meter drive circuitry which detects amount limiting limiting amplifier. voltage meter drive determines state carrier detect output, which active low. parallel tank needed externally from VCC. shunt resistance included which determines peak separation quadrature detector; smaller value will lower expand deviation range linearity, decrease recovered audio sensitivity. data shaping circuit available coupled recovered audio output circuit comparator which designed detect zero crossings modulation. Data rates 35000 baud detectable using comparator. Best sensitivity obtained when data rates limited 1200 baud maximum. Hysteresis available connecting high-valued resistor from Values below recommended input signal cannot overcome hysteresis. meter drive circuitry detects input signal level monitoring limiting limiting amplifier stages. Figure shows unloaded current versus input power. meter drive current used directly (RSSI) used trip carrier detect circuit specified input power. muting provided triggered carrier detect output (Pin 13). This provides carrier level triggered squelch circuit which activated when input desired input frequency falls below present level. level which this occurs determined resistor placed between meter drive output (Pin VCC. Values between recommended. This type squelch pictured Figures Hysteresis available connecting high-valued resistor between Pins formula Hyst meter drive also used directly drive meter provide AGC. current voltage converter other linear buffer will needed this application. second possible application would noise triggered squelch circuit, similar that used with MC3357/MC3359/MC3361B IFs. this case would serve active noise filter, output which would rectified compared reference squelch gate. MC3363 does have dedicated squelch gate, input stage data shaping comparator might used provide this function available. basic type with inverting input output available. This application frees meter drive allow used linear signal strength monitor. circuit Figure complete receiver from antenna input audio preamp output. uses components good performance. receiver operates single channel input sensitivity SINAD.
APPLICATIONS INFORMATION
first local oscillator designed serve frequency synthesized receiver. MC3363 operate together with MC145166/7 provide two-chip ten-channel frequency synthesized receiver 46/49 cordless telephone band. MC3363 also used with MC14515X series CMOS synthesizers MC120XX series prescalers frequency synthesized applications MHz. single channel applications first local oscillator crystal controlled. circuit Figure been used successfully MHz. higher frequencies external oscillator signal injected into Pins and/or level approximately mVrms recommended. first mixers transfer characteristic essentially flat when this approach used (keeping constant 10.7 frequency). second local oscillator Colpitts type which typically 10.245 under crystal control. mixers doubly balanced reduce spurious responses. first second mixers have conversion gains (typical), respectively. Mixer gain stable with respect supply voltage. both conversions, mixer impedances layout designed allow user employ cost, readily available ceramic filters. Following first mixer, 10.7 ceramic bandpass filter recommended. 10.7 filtered signal then into second mixer input other input being connected VCC. filtered ceramic narrow bandpass filter then into limiter input limiter sensitivity limiting, flat MHz. output limiter internally connected quadrature detector, including quadrature capacitor.
