CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION MC3362 complete narrowband receiver from antenna input audio preamp output. voltage dual conversion design yields power drain, excellent sensitivity good image rejection narrowband voice data link applications. typical application (Figure first mixer amplifies signal converts input 10.7 MHz. This signal filtered externally into second mixer, which further amplifies signal converts signal. After external bandpass filtering, into limiting amplifier detection circuitry. audio recovered using conventional quadrature detector. Twice-IF filtering provided internally. input signal level monitored meter drive circuitry which detects amount limiting limiting amplifier. voltage meter drive determines state carrier detect output, which active low.
APPLICATIONS INFORMATION first local oscillator using free-running tank, using synthesis, driven from external crystal oscillator. been MHz.* buffered output available second local oscillator common base Colpitts type which typically 10.245 under crystal control. buffered output available Pins interchangeable. mixers doubly balanced reduce spurious responses. first second mixers have conversion gains (typical), respectively, seen Figure Mixer gain stable with respect supply voltage. both conversions, mixer impedances layout designed allow user employ cost, readily available ceramic filters. Overall sensitivity rejection shown Figure input level N)/N using two-pole post-detection filter pictured.
first local oscillator (Pins and/or driven from strong external source (100 mVrms), mixer used over MHz.

Following first mixer, 10.7 ceramic band-pass filter recommended. 10.7 filtered signal then into second mixer input pin, other input being connected VCC. (VCC) treated common point emitter-driven signals. typically filtered using ceramic bandpass filter then into limiter input pin. limiter sensitivity limiting, flat MHz. output limiter internally connected quadrature detector, including quadrature capacitor. parallel tank needed externally from VCC. shunt resistance included which determines peak separation quadrature detector; smaller value will increase spacing linearity decrease recovered audio sensitivity. data shaping circuit available coupled recovered audio output circuit comparator which designed detect zero crossings modulation. Data rates typically limited 1200 baud ensure data integrity avoid adjacent channel "splatter." Hysteresis available connecting high valued resistor from Values below recommended input signal cannot overcome hysteresis. meter drive circuitry detects input signal level monitoring limiting amplifier stages. Figure shows unloaded current versus input power. meter drive current used directly (RSSI) used trip carrier detect circuit specified input power. this, pick trip level dBm. Read corresponding current from Figure pick resistor such that: 0.64 Hysteresis available connecting high valued resistor between Pins formula Hysteresis VCC/(RH
