7000S Power Consumption
Altera® MAX® 7000S devices offer high density, high performance, advanced features, such in-system programmability (ISP) programmable power-saving mode. These power-saving devices competitively priced, they supported industry-leading MAX+PLUS® development system. This technical brief discusses power consumption cost advantages 7000S devices compares them Lattice ispLSI 2000 devices. Power Consumption 5.0-V Devices Altera Applications recently compared 5.0-V 7000S Lattice ispLSI 2000 devices with macrocells. shown Figures Altera EPM7064S EPM7128S devices consumed less power than Lattice ispLSI2064 ispLSI2128 devices, respectively.

study, power consumption advantage 7000S devices even more pronounced when devices operated non-turbo mode (i.e., when Turbo Bitoption turned off). Figures illustrate power consumption when output pins were either turbo mode non-turbo mode represent upper lower ranges power consumption. During typical application, 7000S devices will consume power between turbo non-turbo ranges. Lattice does offer non-turbo mode option. Power Consumption 3.3-V Devices Altera Applications also compared power consumption 3.3-V EPM7032V ispLSI2032V devices. shown Figure Altera EPM7032V devices consumed less power than Lattice ispLSI2032V devices.

Even when Altera 5.0-V devices were compared with Lattice 3.3-V devices, Altera devices used considerably less power. example, Figures compare power consumption Altera's 5.0-V 7000S Lattice's 3.3-V ispLSI 2000V devices with macrocells. Typical applications consume power between turbo non-turbo ranges. shown these figures, 5.0-V 7000S devices provide competitive alternative Lattice's 3.3-V ispLSI 2000V devices.

Cost Advantages 7000S devices available lower prices than ispLSI 2000 devices (see Table fact, Altera's 128-macrocell EPM7128S device costs significantly less than Lattice's 96-macrocell ispLSI2096 device. Thus, EPM7128S devices provide more macrocells lower price.
