Nonblocking Video Crosspoint Switch with On-Screen Display Insertion Buffers
MAX4358 highly integrated video crosspoint switch matrix with input output buffers On-Screen Display (OSD) Insertion. This device operates from dual supplies from single supply. Digital logic supplied from independent single +2.7V +5.5V supply. Individual outputs switched between input video signal source information through internal, dedicated fast (40ns switching times) located before output buffer. inputs outputs buffered, with outputs able drive standard reverse-terminated video loads. switch matrix configuration output buffer gain programmed through SPI/QSPITM-compatible, three-wire serial interface initialized with single update signal. unique serial interface operates modes facilitating both fast updates initialization. power-up, outputs initialized disabled state avoid output conflicts large-array configurations. Superior flexibility, high integration, space-saving packaging make this nonblocking switch matrix ideal routing video signals security video-ondemand systems. MAX4358 available 144-pin TQFP package specified over extended -40°C +85°C temperature range. MAX4358 evaluation available speed designs.

Crosstalk Board Routing Issues
Improper signal routing causes performance problems. MAX4358 typical crosstalk rejection -62dB 6MHz. board layout degrades crosstalk rejection 20dB more. achieve best crosstalk performance: Place ground isolation between long critical signal board trace runs. These traces shield potential interfering signals. Crosstalk degraded from parallel traces well directly above below adjoining board layers.

2.Maintain controlled-impedance traces. Design many board traces possible transmission lines. This lowers impedance traces reducing potential source crosstalk. More power will dissipated output buffer driving lower impedance. 3.Minimize ground current interaction using good ground plane strategy. addition crosstalk, another issue concern isolation. Isolation rejection undesirable feedthrough from input-to-output with output disabled. MAX4358 achieves -110dB isolation 6MHz selecting pinout configuration such that inputs outputs opposite sides package. Coupling through power supply function quality location supply bypassing. appropriate low-impedance components locate them close possible Avoid routing inputs near outputs.

Driving PC-Board Interconnect Cable +1V/V +2V/V)
MAX4358 output buffers programmed either +1V/V +2V/V. +1V/V configuration typically used when driving short lengths (less than 3cm), high impedance, "local" board traces. drive cable transmission line trace, program gain output buffer +2V/V place resistor series with output. series termination resistor load impedance voltage divider that divides video signal half. gain +2V/V transmit standard video signal down cable. series resistor called backmatch, reverse termination, series termination. This resistor reduces reflections provides isolation, increasing output capacitive driving capability.
Power-Supply Bypassing
MAX4358 operates from single dual supplies. single-supply operation, connect pins ground bypass power-supply pins with 0.1µF capacitor ground. dual-supply systems, bypass supply pins ground with 0.1µF capacitors.
