IRPT3054A Power Module shown figure chip wire epoxy encapsulated module. houses input rectifiers, output inverter, current sense shunts thermistor. 3-phase input bridge rectifiers rated 1600V. brake circuit uses 1200V IGBT freewheeling diode. inverter section employs 1200V, short circuit rated, ultrafast IGBTs ultrafast freewheeling diodes. Current sensing achieved through inductance shunts provided positive negative rail. thermistor provides temperature sensing capability. lead spacing power module meets UL840 pollution level requirements. power circuit layout within module carefully designed minimize inductance power path, reduce noise during inverter operation improve inverter efficiency. driver board required inverter soldered power module pins, thus minimizing assembly alignment. power module designed mounted heat sink with screw mount positions, order ensure good thermal contact between module substrate heat sink.

Mounting, Hookup Application Instructions
Mounting
Connect driver board IRPT3054A module. Remove particles grit from heat sink power substrate. Spread .004" .005" layer silicone grease heat sink, covering entire area that power substrate will occupy. Recommended heat sink flatness .001 inch/inch Total Indicator Readout (TIR) .003 inch below substrate. Place power substrate onto heat sink with mounting holes aligned press firmly into silicone grease. Insert mounting screws through power module into heat sink tighten screws torque.

Functional Information
Heat Sink Requirements
Figure shows thermal resistance heat sink required various output power levels pulse-width-modulated (PWM) switching frequencies. Maximum total losses unit also shown. This data based following operating conditions: maximum continuous combined losses rectifier inverter occur full pulse-width-modulation. These losses maximum continuous operating temperature heat sink. maximum combined losses rectifier inverter full pulse-width modulation under overload increment temperature rise heat sink during overload. minimum output frequency which full load current delivered, sets peak IGBT junction temperature. frequency, IGBT junction temperature tends follow instantaneous fluctuations output current. Thus, peak junction temperature rise increases output frequency decreases.
Over-Temperature Protection
Over-temperature detected using thermistor included power module thermal sensing. protection circuit that initiates shutdown temperature exceeds level implemented. nominal resistance temperature characteristic thermistor given figure
Voltage Rise During Braking
motor will feed energy back link during regenerative braking, forcing voltage rise above level defined input voltage. Deceleration motor must controlled appropriate control keep voltage within rated maximum value. high inertial loads, very fast deceleration rates, this achieved connecting external braking resistor across controlling brake IGBT switching when voltage exceeds allowable limit.
