DESCRIPTION
SigmaTel's STAC9766/67 general purpose 18-bit ADCs 20-bit DACs, full duplex, audio codecs conforming analog component specification AC'97 (Audio Codec Component Specification Rev. 2.2). STAC9766/67 incorporate SigmaTel's proprietary technology achieve excess DACs, ADCs, mixer integrated with analog I/Os, which include four analog line-level stereo inputs, analog line-level mono inputs, stereo outputs, mono output channel. STAC9766/67 include digital input/output capability support modern systems with output that supports SPDIF format. STAC9766/67 standard 2-channel stereo codec. With SigmaTel's headphone drive capability, headphones driven with external amplifier. STAC9766/67 used secondary codec, with STAC9700/21/44/56/ 08/84 primary, multiple codec configuration conforming AC'97 Rev. specification. This configuration provide true sixchannel, AC-3 playback required applications. STAC9766/67 communicates five-wire AC-Link digital component AC'97 providing flexibility audio system design. Packaged AC'97 compliant 48-pin TQFP, STAC9766/67 placed motherboard, daughter boards, PCI, AMR, CNR, cards.

STAC9766/67 block diagram illustrated page provides variable sample rate Digital-to-Analog (DA) Analog-to-Digital (AD) conversion, mixing, analog processing. Supported audio sample rates include kHz, 44.1 kHz, kHz, 22.05 kHz, kHz, 11.025 kHz, kHz; additional rates supported STAC9766/67 soft audio drivers. digital interface communicates with AC'97 controller five-wire AC-Link contains 64-word 16-bit registers. DACs convert digital stereo PCM-out content audio. MIXER block combines PCM_OUT with analog sources, drive LINE_OUT HP_OUT outputs. MONO_OUT delivers either only, mono sources from MIXER. stereo variable sample rate ADC's provide record capability mono stereo sources, deliver digital stereo PCM-in signal back AC-Link. microphone input mono input recorded simultaneously, thus allowing digital output support digital ready initiative. ADC's operate 18-bit resolution DAC's 20-bit resolution. digital ready record path, microphone connected left channel while mono output stereo mixer connected right channel ADC. Make sure microphone input connected stereo mixer when this mode. STAC9766/67 supports General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO), well SPDIF output. These digital options provide number advance architectural implementations, with volume controls digital mixing capabilities built directly into codec. STAC9766/67 designed primarily support stereo (2-speaker) audio. True AC-3 playback achieved 6-speaker applications taking advantage multi-codec option available STAC9766/67 support multiple codecs AC'97 architecture. Additionally, STAC9766/67 provides stereo enhancement feature, SigmaTel Surround (SS3D). SS3D provides listener with several options improved speaker separation beyond normal 2/4speaker arrangements. Together with logic component (controller advanced core logic chip-set) AC'97, STAC9766/67 SoundBlaster® Windows Sound System® compatible with SigmaTel's driver 98/2K/ME/XP.
