DESCRIPTION
MSA66 amplifier pulse width modulated amplifier that deliver 400W continuously load. full bridge output amplifier operated from single power supply over wide range voltages, voltage motor supply within rating, common supply used both motor supply VCC. 4-quadrant allows amplifier transition smoothly through volts required deceleration control position control applications. input amplifier true differential amplifier which allows operation with ground referenced inputs swinging from -10V 10V, matching output characteristics many motor control chip-sets. Since input true differential, MSA66 interfaced single polarity input signals well. Power source terminals brought current sensing. MSA66 serve oscillator several others synchronized PWM. section Oscillator details. package, modular 34-pin DIP, constructed surface mount components dielectrically isolated aluminum substrate. package outline details.

floating; with heatsink grounded through wiring, with heatsink connected short jumper from System considerations will determine approach.
BYPASSING
power supply terminals bypassed internally with 0.1µf capacitor. additional switching regulator grade electrolytic capacitor should installed between PGND. order keep minimum 50µf greater capacitor recommended, should mounted close MSA66 terminals possible.
OSCILLATOR
internal oscillator used generating MSA66. This oscillator hysteresis oscillator formed from active integrator comparator. complete oscillator circuit feedback path this oscillator must closed connecting OUT, This oscillator nominal frequency 30kHz with tolerance kHz. frequency lowered adding capacitor, CEXTERNAL from OUT, nominal frequency determined using following formula: F=30kHz (1000pf/(1000pf+CEXTERNAL))
GROUNDING
Switching amplifiers notorious noise problems caused improper grounding power supply filtering. MSA66 Apex taken design steps minimize these problems; however thought care should used power supply ground wiring filtering. Refer Application Note1 "General Operating Considerations" Application Note "PWM Basics" helpful information regarding power supplies, heat sinking, grounding. high power ground amplifier electrically connected signal ground; this allows tree grounding system used. Signal power must kept within 0.5V each other insure adequate gate drive output FETS. Using tree grounding system avoid frequency ground loops, tying signal ground power ground MSA66 both work MSA66 concerned; system considerations will determine which system best. Doing both same time often creates ground loop noise problems. mounting surface connected connected through ceramic capacitor. MSA66's have operated satisfactorily with heatsink
EXTERNAL
Alternatively triangle wave from external source used generating PWM. this case pins connected; external triangle wave must have negative level 0.5V, positive level 4.5V, frequency less. oscillator MSA66 serve "external source" others. This operation requires that OUT, MSA66 connected itself MSA66s being clocked.

AMPLIFIER OPERATION
MSA66 generates differential output voltage 2(VS input swing. Thus differential gain example, with gain calculated (80V (5A*(0.205 0.105)))/10 input amplifier designed operate with either below ground above VCC. sacrifice gain equivalent offset this extended greater voltage adding resistor each input. resistor will halve gain double offset, allow operation below ground above VCC. differential structure MSA66 allows operation single ended input referenced voltage within dynamic range. Either input serve reference input.
magnitude current signal obtained tying sources together using common sense resistor. voltage this resistor, with suitable scaling, comparator which disable output setting Setting immediately turns power FETs, which turned until first rising edge clock after returned This implements current limit circuit. same sense circuit used implement electronic circuit breaker latching input with external latch. Normal operation will resume until this latch reset. When sense resistors used both transconductance operation current limit obtained using differential amplifier analog current feedback summing amplifier drive comparator. Alternatively differential amplifier output full wave rectified obtain magnitude current signal.
STARTUP CONDITIONS
special startup conditions required. MSA66 transition from shutdown 100% duty cycle under conditions. There approximately 100µs delay after stabilized until operation starts.
CURRENT SENSE
There current limit current sensing circuits MSA66. However, source terminals N-rail power FETs brought separate from power ground, which allows inserting resistors current sensing external circuits.
SUPPLY
internal regulator provides +5V±5%. This regulator supplies about 100mA internal circuits: available external use. Some internal precision circuits well logic this supply; therefore user must take reasonable precaution avoid corrupting supply.
CURRENT SENSE OPTIONS
voltage proportional coil current, including polarity, required; then separate sense resistor should used sense current from each half bridge. These resistors should then connected true differential amplifier produce this voltage. This technique suitable transconductance drive motor.
