Remote ON/OFF (RC)
4000 series DC/DC converters include current limiting circuitry that allows them withstand continuous overloads short circuit conditions output. output voltage will decrease towards zero output currents excess output current Omax). converter will resume normal operation after removal overload. load distribution system should designed carry maximum short circuit output current specified.
Over Voltage Protection (OVP)

Over Temperature Protection (OTP)
4000 series DC/DC converters protected from thermal overload internal over temperature shutdown circuit. When temperature adjacent primary mosfet exceeds +120 (+5oC, -5oC), power module will automatically shut down. will restart when temperature drops +100 (+5oC, -5oC).
Paralleling Redundancy
figure below illustrates redundancy achieved. customer provided diodes converter outputs allow failed converter remove itself from shared group without pulling down common output bus. This configuration extended additional numbers converters. Based desired circuit, converters controlled individually groups means signals primary Remote On/Off inputs.
When powering loads with significant dynamic current requirements, voltage regulation load improved addition decoupling capacitance load. most effective technique locate ceramic capacitors close load possible, using several capacitors lower effective ESR. These ceramic capacitors will handle short duration high frequency components dynamic load changes. addition, higher values electrolytic capacitors should used handle mid-frequency components. equally important good design practices when configuring distribution system. resistance inductance (printed circuit board) layouts cabling should used. Remember that when using remote sensing, resistance, inductance, capacitance distribution system within feedback loop converter. This have affect converter's compensation resulting stability dynamic response performance. "rule thumb", 100uF/A output current used without additional analysis. example, with converter, values decoupling capacitance 2000uF used without regard stability. With larger values capacitance, load transient recovery time exceed specified value. much capacitance possible should outside remote sensing loop close load. absolute maximum value output capacitance 10,000uF. values larger than this, please contact your local Ericsson Power Modules representative.
