APPLICATIONS NOTES Adjustable Regulator Design
B1582 designed high performance cost solution application requiring lower dropout than traditional regulators. B1582 uses separate input voltage VCTRL (VCTRL VOUT+ 1.3V) minimize dropout voltage. This allows 2.5V power load come from 3.3V system supply. added benefit this will reduce heat dissipation, lower heat sink cooling cost. typical application would 3.3V VCTRL from motherboard power supply provide nominal 2.5V output. Using sense allows Kelvin measure output, reducing resistive-associated errors. B1582 power 2.5V core voltage microprocessors such Pentium, P55C, AMD5k86 PowerPC 603EV 604EV processors. 1.25V reference voltage being developed between SENSE AS1582. Adding external resistors (see will allow setting output voltage from 1.25V chosen that this current specified minimum load current 10mA. given formula: VOUT VREF R2/R1) IADJ (R2). current flowing from typically 50µA. This contributes final VOUT usually neglected. Connecting sense resistor divider will improve load regulation. Lowering Noise Using SENSE Kelvin load will increase accuracy output voltage during load regulation. fixed voltage devices, adding capacitor will improve transient response. This capacitor chosen range 0.1µF will depend amount output capacitance system.
