Description
74HC/HCT4046A high-speed Si-gate CMOS devices compatible with '4046' '4000B' series. They specified compliance with JEDEC standard 74HC/HCT4046A phase-locked-loop circuits that comprise linear voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) three different phase comparators (PC1, PC3) with common signal input amplifier common comparator input. signal input directly coupled large voltage signals, indirectly coupled (with series capacitor) small voltage signals. self-bias input circuit keeps small voltage signals within linear region input amplifiers. With passive low-pass filter, '4046A' forms second-order loop PLL. excellent linearity achieved linear op-amp techniques. requires external capacitor (between C1B) external resistor (between GND) external resistors (between GND, GND). Resistor capacitor determine frequency range VCO. Resistor enables have frequency offset required. high input impedance simplifies design low-pass filters giving designer wide choice resistor/capacitor ranges. order load low-pass filter, demodulator output input voltage provided (DEMOUT). contrast conventional techniques where DEMOUT voltage threshold voltage lower than input voltage, here DEMOUT voltage equals that input. DEMOUT used, load resistor (RS) should connected from DEMOUT GND; unused, DEMOUT should left open. output (VCOOUT) connected directly comparator input (COMPIN), connected frequency-divider. output signal duty factor (maximum expected deviation 1%), input held constant level. level inhibit input (INH) enables demodulator, while HIGH level turns both minimize standby power consumption. only difference between versions input level specification input.
