General Description
AP1086 dropout positive adjustable fixed-mode regulator with minimum 1.5A output current capability. product specifically designed provide well-regulated supply voltage applications such high-speed termination current 3.3V logic supply. AP1086 also well suited other applications such cards. AP1086 guaranteed have <1.4V dropout full load current making ideal provide well-regulated outputs 1.25V 5.0V with input supply different output voltage.

Functional Description
Introduction AP1086 adjustable fixed-mode Dropout(LDO) regulator terminal device which easily programmed internal mask change voltages within range 1.25 AP1086 only needs 1.4V differential between Vout maintain output regulation. addition, output voltage tolerances also extremely tight they include transient response part specification. example, Intel specification calls total 100mV including initial tolerance, load regulation 1.5A load step. AP1086 specifically designed meet fast current transient needs well providing accurate initial voltage, reducing overall system cost with need fewer output capacitors. Load Regulation Since AP1086 only terminal device, possible provide true remote sensing output voltage load. supply good load regulation internal feedback bypass external loss such adjustable mode. Stability AP1086 requires output capacitor part frequency compensation order make regulator stable. most applications minimum 10uF aluminum electrolytic capacitor insures both stability good transient response. Thermal Design AP1086 incorporates internal thermal shutdown that protects device when junction temperature exceeds maximum allowable junction temperature. Although this device operate with junction temperatures range 150oC, recommended that selected heat sink chosen such that during maximum continuous load operation junction temperature kept below temperature. Layout Consideration output capacitors must located close Vout terminal device possible. recommended section layer board plane connect Vout output capacitors prevent high frequency oscillation that result excessive trace inductance.

NAME (GND) Vout FUNCTION Adjustable (Ground only fixed mode) output regulator. minimum 10uF capacitor must connected from this ground insure stability. input regulator. Typically large storage capacitor connected from this ground insure that input voltage does below minimum dropout voltage during load transient response.
