Send RS-232, Signals Four Fiber Optic Ports Distances Miles
Model FDF4SE
Description: FDF4SE designed provide communication from asynchronous serial port four fiber optic ports distances miles. FDF4SE expandable, allowing more FDF4SE devices cascaded together. Each additional FDF4SE adds four more fiber optic ports communicating with Master port. converter multi-drop Master/Slave configuration, allowing "Master" asynchronous serial device talk number "Slave" devices while providing EMI/RFI transient immunity optical fiber. RS-232 data signals 115.2kbps RS-422 RS-485 data signals 460kbps supported. FDF4SE supports both Transmit Receive data lines, provides full hardware control RS422/485 driver with B&B's automatic Send Data control circuit. Timeouts dip-switch selectable between 0.10 serial connections provided same DB-25 female connector; multimode fiber connected connectors; RJ-45 connectors used expansion port. unit must powered with 10-30 (370 10V). Power supplied through either power jack, DB-25 female 25(+) 12(-), terminal block located inside enclosure. Figure Typical Setup

RS-232 Connections: DB-25 female serial connector used connecting RS-232, RS-422 RS-485. RS-232 signals pinned device (input output straight through cable used from DB-25 port device such terminal. standard 25-pin adapter used cases where serial port device DB-9. null modem cable adapter that swaps pins needed connecting modems other devices. Figure connection diagrams devices. Because RS-422 RS485 signals also available same connector, take special care hook external signals these pins. This problem most serial devices, custom cable must made that does connect extra pins DB25 connector your device power special non-standard outputs.

Documentation Number FDF4SE2901 RS-422 RS-485 Connections: RS-422/485 driver receiver connected four pins DB-25 connector. Signal ground When connecting four-wire RS-422/485 device system, connect output your device pins RD(B+) RD(A-). Connect input your device pins TD(B+) TD(A-). two-wire RS-485 systems, driver receiver FDF4SE must connected tying pins together together. This allows FDF4SE communicate half-duplex over same pair. Fiber Optic Connections: FDF4SE uses separate emitter photo-detector operating wavelength. Connections emitter detector done with type connectors. Almost multimode glass fiber size used including 50/125 62.5/125 100/140 fibers required between devices, each direction data. Figure typical multi-drop configuration using FDF4SE FDS4FE. model FDS4FE designed conjunction with FDF4SE take RS-232/422/485 data, send across fiber optic lines, broadcast serial ports. most important consideration planning fiber optic link "power budget" fiber device. This value represents amount loss that present link between fiber devices before units fail perform properly. This value includes line attenuation well connector loss. FDF4SE typical connector-toconnector power budget 12.1 Because 62.5/125 cable typically line attenuation 12.1 power budget translates into miles. This assumes extra connectors splices link. Each extra connection would typically loss, reducing possible distance (547 ft.). actual loss should measured before assuming distances.
Dip-Switch Setup: Table RS-485 Timeout Selection Dip-Switch (SW1) FDF4SE defines Baud Rate Pos. Pos. Pos. Pos. Pos. Time(ms) mode operation when being used RS-422 RS-485. 1200 8.20 Positions through switch determine timeout 2400 4.30 RS-485 driver. Because driver controlled hardware, specific time must tell hardware 4800 Used 2.20 long wait data fiber side before turning 9600 Used 1.30 RS-422/485 driver. this time short, 19.2K Used 0.56 driver could disabled before transmission complete, 38.4K Used 0.27 resulting data corruption. time long, 57.6K Used 0.22 RS-485 device respond before RS-422/485 driver 76.8K Used 0.14 FDF4SE disabled, corrupting this response. 115.2K Used 0.10 recommend that timeout approximately 153.6K 0.06 character time longer. character times several 230.4K 0.04 different baud rates selectable switch positions 460.8K 0.02 through need different timeout than what provided, removed replaced with different value R17. Table shows different timeout values switch positions well some typical replacement values. Table 422/485 Switch Settings Position Enable RS-485 2-Wire Mode (Half duplex) RS-485 4-Wire Mode (Full duplex) RS-422 Mode (Full duplex) Position Enable
Positions determine when RS-422/485 driver receiver enabled. Position controls driver, Position controls receiver. RS-422 operation, both switches "Off" position. multi-drop RS-485 four-wire systems, position should "On" position should "Off." This allows receiver enabled time eliminates some possible timing problems. RS-485 two-wire systems, both switches should "On" position. This disables RS422/485 receiver whenever driver enabled, preventing data from being echoed back fiber side. Table illustrates switch settings typical setups.
