Power Management
GM1117 series positive adjustable fixed regulators designed provide 1.0A output with dropout voltage performance. On-chip trimming adjusts reference voltage them work post regulators microprocessor power supplies where voltage operation fast transient response required. Pin-to-pin compatible with LT1086 family regulators, GM1117's available surface-mount SOT-223 TO-252 packages.

APPLICATION INFORMATION
GM1117 series linear regulators provide fixed adjustable output voltages currents 1.0A. These regulators protected against overcurrent conditions include thermal shutdown protection. GM1117's have composite PNP-NPN output transistor require output capacitor stability. detailed procedure selecting this capacitor follows.

GM1117 output voltage range 1.25 external resistor divider sets output voltage shown Figure regulator maintains fixed 1.25V (typical) reference between output adjust pin. resistor divider network causes fixed current flow ground. Stability Considerations
output compensation capacitor helps determine three main characteristics linear regulator's performance: start-up delay, load transient response, loop stability. capacitor value type based cost, availability, size temperature constraints. tantalum aluminum electrolytic capacitor preferred, film ceramic capacitor with almost zero cause instability. aluminum electrolytic capacitor least expensive type, when circuit operates temperatures, both value capacitor will vary widely. optimum performance over full operating temperature range, tantalum capacitor best. 22µF tantalum capacitor will work fine most applications, with high current regulators such GM1117 higher capacitance values will improve transient response stability. Most applications GM1117's involve large changes load current, output capacitor must supply instantaneous load current. output capacitor causes immediate drop output voltage given
term IAdj represents error added adjust current. chosen that minimum load current least should same type, e.g. metal film best tracking over temperature. While required, bypass capacitor from adjust ground will improve ripple rejection
microprocessor applications output capacitor network several tantalum ceramic capacitors parallel commonly used.
