APPLICATION SPECIFIC DATA
Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistors well known temperature sensing. What well known, however, that Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistors used thermal protection. Although their operating principles similar, applications very different; whereas thermistors sense measure temperature over defined range, thermistors switch particular temperature. Just like thermostats they protect such equipment components motors, transformers, power transistors thyristors against overtemperature. thermistor less expensive than thermostat, switch temperature more accurately specified. also smaller easier design-in electronic circuitry. does work? thermistor mounted thermal contact with equipment protected, connected into bridge comparator circuit, such shown Fig. normal temperature, thermistor resistance (Rp) lower than (see Fig. comparator's output voltage will low. equipment overtemperature occurs, thermistor will quickly heat trigger nominal reference temperature whereupon resistance will increase value much higher than causing switch high level sufficient activate alarm, relay power shutdown circuit.
