Operating Instructions
Test Equipment Required Personal Computer with Windows later O/S) parallel port. Power Supply, 500mA. Oscilloscope, Digital sampling, 4-channel High Accuracy (e.g., HP34401A equivalent) Test Steps Software setup Close open Windows application programs. Insert "SMM105EV Software" into CD-ROM drive. Follow installation instructions, rebooting computer when prompted. After computer reboots, perform full power shutdown install Dongle. Dongle installation Caution: apply power sources SMM105 evaluation board while Dongle connected board. Remove existing cabling from computer's parallel port (LPT1). Connect Dongle parallel port. Insert Dongle cable onto SMM105 Evaluation board connector (pin board corresponds white wire with orange stripe, also SMX3200 Dongle Info Page SMX3200 Data Sheet ROM, site document package). Reapply power computer. After computer restarts, open `SMM105 Programmer' application program click `Standard Settings' button. dialog shown Figure will appear screen. Note: When first running SMM105EV Windows GUI, Read Config. (see Figure This will find address part EVAL Board. Once this done, uncheck `Search Address' box. This allows fast Configuration Reads Writes Margining otherwise each operation takes time Programmer will look EVAL Board address possible addresses. Note: SMM105 device registers preconfigured with Default Configuration Settings shown SMM105 data sheet. Settings specific SMM105EV evaluation included Intel format file located programmed into SMM105 samples shipped with SMM105EV kit. Optional: Click `HEX' folder icon load `SMM105EV.Default Hex' file from CD-ROM drive. Optional: Click `Write Config' button. This configures SMM105 registers accurately monitor DC-DC converter along with performing other supervisory functions. Hardware Note: Dongle interface generates impedance source power program SMM105. Ensure jumpers their correct position displayed Figure jumper START connector must place when powering SMM105 removed during normal operation Start ADOC function. START polarity programmable normally driven logic signal. Connect power source EVAL board follows: Connect terminal supply `GND' connect closest `+12V' connect pin. Connect terminal supply either `VDD' connect pins. Switch power source READY (D3) indicates that DC-DC converter enabled within programmed tolerance. Explore SMM105 features changing many configurable parameters. Confirm programmed settings agree with actual measurements. Observe functionality SMM105 varying nominal, high settings confirming DC-DC converter output voltage changes according programmed settings. Only Operation: SMM105 Eval Board designed operate from because DC-DC Converters populated boards specified operate from inputs. order operate board from +12V only, DC-DC converters Eval should removed populated with input devices. Also, jumper labeled "DC_DC +VIN" must moved from "Vdd" "12V" positions must applied "12V" pin. apply voltage "VDD" pin.

Comments Precautions
Ensure that SMM105 device securely seated 28-pin Spring-Loaded Socket correctly oriented indicated block dot/void part marking orientation. Occasionally, socket lose contact from oxidation. With power turned-off, reseat device pressing down releasing socket. SMM105 precision integrated circuit requiring certain attention spent with regards component selection printed circuit board layout ensure greatest possible performance. Since SMM105 does measure voltage differentially, special attention must paid where part's connected. measurements best made load power supply, should also connected power supply return load. Accurate measurement supply possible laying such that large copper trace from supply voltage return load) routed directly SMM105 joined together there `star ground'). large trace ensures that currents flowing between supply returns does result voltage drop occurring between point load single point connection made SMM105 pin. Choose low-leakage ceramic film capacitors TRIM_CAP ADOC function, making sure these components located close SMM105 possible. Although internal voltage reference available, higher accuracies possible using external 0.1% reference. Locate this device nearby SMM105 keep ground connection from reference SMM105 short possible. FILT_CAP physical location important that forms low-pass filter with filter DC-DC converter switching noise. ceramic capacitor sufficient this purpose.
