MIC2159 high-efficiency, simple 400kHz synchronous buck control housed small ePAD MSOP-10 package. MIC2159 allows compact DC-to-DC solutions with minimal external component count cost. output voltage precisely regulated down 0.8V. adaptive N-Channel MOSFET drive scheme allows efficiencies more than across wide load range. Data sheets support documentation found Micrel's site www.micrel.com. Requirements MIC2159 evaluation board requires input power source that able deliver greater than 12V. Precautions evaluation board does have reverse polarity protection. Applying negative voltage I/P1 terminal damage device. MIC2159 evaluation board tailored input voltage range. input voltage range should exceed 14.5V input. Getting Started Connect external supply VIN. Apply desired input voltage I/P1 ground terminals evaluation board, paying careful attention polarity supply voltage (5VVIN12V). ammeter placed between input supply terminal evaluation board. Ensure that supply voltage monitored terminal. ammeter and/or power lead resistance reduce voltage supplied input. Enabling MIC2159. MIC2159 enabled soon power supply with voltage range 14.5V connected across I/P1and terminals. Adjusting Output Voltage Output Voltage selected changing link voltage selector header JP1. voltage options 1.2V, 1.8V, 2.5V. link selected left open then output voltage default 0.8V. output voltage MIC2159 evaluation board still adjustable. output voltage controlled R11, R12, feedback resistors. example, takes R11, output voltage calculated follows:

evaluation board initially adjusted 1.2V, easily modified removing replacing with value that yields desired output voltage. resistor recommended 3k-to-10k resistor range.

Ensure output voltage selected does exceed since tantalum output capacitor 6.3V voltage rating. Typically, working voltage tantalum capacitors should never exceed their rated voltage value. When output voltages greater than desired, output capacitor should replaced with where output voltage less than output capacitor voltage rating (tantalum capacitors).
