BCM5773 Applications
BCM5773 complete SATA-II RAID-on-Chip (RoC) solution that significantly reduces utilization system design complexity time. addition integrating hardware necessary implement high-performance RAID multiport SATA connectivity, also integrates complete RAID Stack that runs internal MIPS processor, representing complete subsystem solution that easily integrated into server external storage system. device communicates with host using flexible options: PCI-Express interface, PCI-X1.0 interface. bridging option between PCI-E PCI-X interfaces enables extra PCI-X slots available expansion when PCI-E interface used host interface BCM5773. attaches directly eight SATAII disk drive backplanes high-performance, integrated SATA that capable driving long-length backplanes. Hot-Plug capability also supported, enabling drives inserted/removed without affecting system operation. high-bandwidth host arbiter GB/s) decouples host interface from SATA ports embedded processor, enabling maximum throughput workloads demanding sequential performance. During WRITE Operation, Data moves from host memory local memory QDMA engine embedded memory controller unit (MCU). operation then (optionally) applied data within MCU, after which data then written SATA drives high-performance QDMA engines embedded SATA ports. During READ Operation, SATA QDMA engine move data from drives either local memory (READ caching) directly host memory (uncached). BCM5773 provides interrupt coalescing mechanism pace host interrupts generates. This allows host software batch-process interrupts efficiently. addition, BCM5773 also incorporates mechanism reduce reads periodically DMAing BCM5773 Status Block into host memory. Both these mechanisms vastly reduce host utilization limiting amount adaptor accesses that must performed Count (LPC) Interface Specification compliant interface available connect BCM5773 external flash/ROM. Four pins used implement SGIO interface drive activity general-purpose I/O. Dual interfaces running also available communicate with external enclosure management device Serial EEPROM. Built-in PRBSs pseudo-random sequence test generators/checkers available per-port testing without additional hardware drives. These programmed from in-band PCI-X PCI-E interfaces.
