DESCRIPTION
SA13 half bridge pulse width modulation amplifier that supply 3000W load. Flexible frequency control provided. internal 45kHz oscillator requires external components used synchronize multiple amplifiers. oscillator output divided down connected clock input lower switching frequency clock input stage divides determines output switching rate (normally 22.5 kHz). shutdown input turns both output drivers. High side current sensing protects amplifier from shorts ground. addition, half bridge output MOSFETs protected from thermal overloads directly sensing temperature die. 12-pin hermetic MO-127 power package occupies only square inches board space.
Case tied Allow current case. Bypassing supplies required. Package Apex MO-127 (STD). Outline Dimensions/Packages Apex data book. +PWM RAMP/-PWM then HIGH. *See text.

OPERATING CONSIDERATIONS
SA13
external shutdown command mixed with protection circuit Figure figure shutdown command signal divided down threshold level SHDN SA13. long shutdown command remains high both output transistors will remain off.
GENERAL
Helpful information about power supplies, heatsinking mounting found "General Operating Considerations" section Apex data book. information package outline, heatsinks, mounting hardware "Package Outlines" "Accessories" section data book. Also Application Note "PWM Basics."
CLOCK CIRCUIT RAMP GENERATOR
clock frequency internally frequency approximately 45kHz. will normally tied pin. clock divided applied network which produces ramp signal -PWM/ RAMP pin. external clock signal applied synchronization purposes. clock frequency lower than 45kHz chosen external capacitor must tied -PWM/RAMP pin. This capacitor, which parallels internal capacitor, must selected that ramp oscillates volts with lower peak volts above ground.

INPUTS
half bridge driver accessed input comparator. When +PWM -PWM then HIGH. motion control processor which generates signal drive these pins with signals referenced GND.
BYPASSING
Adequate bypassing power supplies required proper operation. Failure cause erratic efficiency operation well excessive ringing outputs. supply should bypassed with least ceramic capacitor parallel with another capacitor least 10µF output current. Capacitor types rated switching applications only types that should considered. bypass capacitors must physically connected directly power supply pins. Even inch lead length will cause excessive ringing outputs. This very fast switching times inductance lead connection. bypassing requirements supply less stringent, still necessary. .1µF .47µF ceramic capacitor connected directly will suffice.
PROTECTION CIRCUITS
high side current monitor will latch output transistors when high side current rises approximately 150% rated output. temperature output transistors also monitored. When either output transistors reaches approximately 165°C both latched off. either case, will necessary remove fault condition recycle power restart circuit. short protected against inserting sensing resistor into circuit shown Figure
STARTUP CONDITIONS
high side channel output half bridge circuit driven bootstrap circuit charge pump arrangement. order circuit produce 100% duty cycle indefinitely side transistor must have previously been condition. This means, turn, that input signal SA13 startup demanding 100% duty cycle, output follow command tri-state condition. ramp signal must cross input signal some point correctly determine output state. After ramp crosses input signal level time, output state will correct thereafter.
SHDN
SENSE
FIGURE PROTECTING AGAINST SHORTS +Vs.
Figure sense resistor inserted into connection tied SHDN pin. When current from short develops across sense resistor shutdown circuit will shut output transistors remainder switching cycle. SA13 will restart beginning cycle retest this condition. This circuit does test shorts ground. circuit filters switching spikes need adjusted ignore normal current spikes application circuit.
