GENERAL DESCRIPTION
AD1582, AD1583, AD1584, AD1585 family cost, power, dropout, precision band references. These designs available three-terminal (series) devices packaged compact SOT-23, 3-lead surface-mount package. versatility these references makes them ideal battery-powered systems where there wide variations supply voltage need minimize power dissipation. superior accuracy temperature stability AD1582/ AD1583/AD1584/AD1585 made possible precise matching thermal tracking on-chip components. Patented temperature drift curvature correction design techniques minimize nonlinearities voltage output temperature characteristic. These series mode devices (AD1582/AD1583/AD1584/AD1585) source sink load current operate efficiently with only required headroom supply. This family draws maximum quiescent current with only µA/V variation with supply voltage. advantage these designs over conventional shunt devices extraordinary. Valuable supply current longer wasted through input series resistor, maximum power efficiency achieved input voltage levels. AD1582, AD1583, AD1584, AD1585 available three grades, provided tiny footprint, SOT-23. grades specified over industrial temperature range -40°C +125°C.

THEORY OPERATION
AD1582/AD1583/AD1584/AD1585 family uses band concept produce stable, temperature coefficient voltage references suitable high accuracy data acquisition components systems. This family precision references uses underlying temperature characteristics silicon transistor's base emitter voltage forward-biased operating region. Under this condition, such transistors have mV/°C temperature coefficient (TC) that, when extrapolated absolute zero, (with collector current proportional absolute temperature), approximates silicon band voltage. summing voltage that equal opposite temperature coefficient mV/°C with forward-biased transistor, almost zero reference developed. TEMPERATURE PERFORMANCE
AD1582/AD1583/AD1584/AD1585 family references designed applications where temperature performance important. Extensive temperature testing characterization ensures that device's performance maintained over specified temperature range. error band guaranteed with AD1582/AD1583/AD1584/ AD1585 family maximum deviation from initial value 25°C. Thus, given grade AD1582/AD1583/AD1584/ AD1585, designer easily determine maximum total error summing initial accuracy temperature variation, e.g., AD1582BRT, initial tolerance temperature error band thus reference guaranteed from -40°C +125°C. Figure shows typical output voltage drift AD1582 illustrates methodology. Figure bounded x-axis operating temperature extremes. bounded y-axis maximum minimum output voltages observed over operating temperature range. slope diagonal drawn from initial output value 25°C output values +125°C -40°C determines performance grade device. Duplication these results requires test system that highly accurate with stable temperature control. Evaluation AD1582 produces curves similar those Figure output readings vary depending upon test methods test equipment used.

TURN-ON TIME DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE
Many power instrument manufacturers becoming increasingly concerned with turn-on characteristics components being used their systems. Fast turn-on components often enable user save power keeping power when needed. Turn-on settling time defined time required, after application power (cold start), output voltage reach final value within specified error. major factors affecting this active circuit settling time time required thermal gradients chip stabilize. Figure shows turn-on settling transient response test circuit. Figure shows turn-on characteristic AD1582. This characteristic generated from cold-start operation represents true turn-on waveform after power-up. Figure shows fine settling characteristics AD1582. Typically, reference settles within 0.1% final value about device momentarily draw excessive supply current when VSUPPLY slightly below minimum specified level. Power supply resistance must enough ensure reliable turn-on. Fast power supply edges minimize this effect.
