FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION UR7HCTS2-S840 consists functionally five major sections (see Functional Diagram). These Sensor Interface, Power Management section, 16-Bit Timer, Oscillator Circuit Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) Asynchronous Serial Interface (Serial). sections communication with each other operate concurrently. OSCILLATOR This built-in Oscillator circuit capable operations with external 4.00 Clock source, Ceramic Resonator (preferably with built-in Load Capacitors). Note, that Crystals used. ScreenCoderSPI/Serial frequently switches Oscillator order operate with least amount power consumption. very high Crystal-based oscillators have exceedingly long Start-up time used with ScreenCoderSPI/Serial EXTERNAL PS/2 INTERFACE There external PS/2 port connection standard PS/2 devices, including Microsoft WheelMouse 5-Button Mouse. mouse motion data sent relative format. external PS/2 port also supports hotplug; users connect mouse system time without rebooting. POWER MANAGEMENT ScreenCoderSPI/Serial implements power management methods: Self-Power Managementand System-coordinated Power Management.
Self-Power ManagementSelf-Power Managementis method implemented that, independently system intervention, results lowest power consumption possible within present parameters operation. Through SelfPower ManagementTM, capable typically operating only 1uA, independently state Host system. Self-Power Managementprimarily determines actual power consumption When host active state, still operate most time only 1uA, even when active external PS/2 device attached Self-Power Managementoffers three modes operation: Stop, Wait. "Stop" mode lowest power consumption mode. this mode, oscillator stopped consumes only leakage current. This default mode which will revert when idle. "Wait" mode entered when waiting response continuation data stream from PS/2 device. duration wait mode limited 40ms, within which time will either receive data from PS/2 device enter "Stop" mode. Typical power consumption this mode several hundred uAs. "Run" mode entered briefly, only process event. will only remain this mode when there pending tasks, such PS/2 report reception initialization PS/2 device.

TOUCH SCREEN SENSOR INTERFACE ScreenCoderSPI/Serial acquire data from four- eight-wire resistive touch screen sensors. sensor interface following features:
Touch detection
periodically checks touch pressure applied panel. there touch, will perform measurements will send data system. When touch pressure detected, further qualifies determines amount pressure. Semtech's proprietary, patent-pending touch detection algorithm performs this test very quickly, accommodating sensors with various plate-to-plate capacitances.
External PS/2 power down:
ScreenCoderSPI/Serial monitors state power supply rail external PS/2 pointing device through XPWRS pin. senses that external PS/2 device been powereddown host, will actively eliminate shot-through current input buffers clock data lines driving both low. ScreenCoderSPI/Serial will reinitialize external PS/2 pointing device when power external PS/2 port restored.

TOUCH SCREEN SENSOR INTERFACE (CON'T)
Touch Measurement
Position information only collected been determined that touch pressure sufficient accurate reading. obtain position information from Resistive Touch Screen Sensor, ScreenCoderSPI/Serial uses four internal drivers (two pins each driver) four sense lines. During sampling, drivers X-axis activated setting X-drive high other X-drive low. drivers Y-axis floating. This action produces voltage gradient across touch screen's surface direction. internal measures both voltage across activated X-plane voltage potential between planes. Next, drivers Yaxis activated while drivers X-axis floating. Again, internal measures both voltage across activated plane potential between planes. absolute position obtained from these four measurements. keeps measuring touch pressure even while positioning data acquired. insufficient touch pressure detected during sampling position, current data will rejected.
Touch algorithm
vibration electrical noise, data used directly. Internal data processing delivers consistent position accuracy quick touch response.
Resolution
ScreenCoderSPI/Serial uses built-in converter touch position. maximum absolute position resolution 1000 points direction. Resolution varies somewhat different touch screen sensors, voltage droop connecting wires sensor's mechanical construction.
Touch screen from different makers
Operating parameters touch screens from different manufacturers vary depending size sensor, material made from, mechanical construction. ScreenCoderSPI/Serial takes these properties into account, adjusts automatically plate-to-plate capacitance, intrinsic plate resistances, etc.

ScreenCoderSPI/Serial transmits data 19200 Baud, using recommended 4MHz oscillator.
Protocol:
Serial mode, ScreenCoderSPI/Serial supports transmission direction only Host). starts transmission system when mouse/keyboard package pending. data format start bit, data bits, parity stop bit. ScreenCoderSPI/Serial asserts _CTS indicate that packet transfer will start. Host asserts _RTS indicate that ready receive data. _RTS means that system receive data (e.g. UART operational). UR7HCTS2-S840 places data line when detects _RTS low. When package successfully transmitted, raises _CTS.
Notes Protocol:
assure fast transmission, system must assert _RTS soon possible. system ready receive data, doesn't have raise _RTS between packages. UR7HCTS2-S840 checks _RTS after every byte transmission. _RTS returns high, means that transmission unsuccessful. will raise _CTS abort transmission entire package will retransmitted. maximum time 10ms. system cannot assert _RTS after 10ms _CTS low, will raise _CTS abort transmission request. After that, ScreenCoderSPI/Serial will start transmission again.
